YovEtich, a~ 7 :30 0' clock, P.27., on Noonday, June 6, 1972. Upon taking roll ca11, the following aldermen answered present: Jackson P~.rker Thomas Kilpatrick E. H. Kilp~tr~_ek aslted that the minL.tes be corrected to read 'that the purpose of this meeting was not to hear Billings-Yellowstone City County Planner, Alike I~.cCollum", taut "to discuss what he had to say". TnTith this correction, motion was made by Ebersviller and seco~.ded by Kilpatrick that the minutes be approved as corrected. ~'[otion carried. Police Judge report ~~as presented for approval. X71 R1. V 1 s Notion was nsade by Kilpatrick grad seconded by Ebersviller ~ihat Resalution No. 1423 be declared. passed and adopted. Upon taking ro11 call vote, G.1.1 aldermen present voted "A,ye" . Ietter was read from George Fox threatening the City of Laurel with a l~wsvit if something isn't done to stop the drai.n~ge problem that is fl.oodin~ his land with f~.ood w~.ters and sewer seepage run of'£ from the ca.ty streets. After discussion, motion w~.s made by Burns and seconded by Kilpatrick that this letter be placed on file and a letter be written to Nr. Fox informing him that we received his 1~tter and action is pendinb. Motion carz^.ed. Nrs. Frank Riesin~er appeared before the council to find out who owned the extra 20 feet in front of their property at 1109 First eve. She stated that this area w~.s never blacktopped ~rhen the street was finished and. they would like to do something about it. ~?radlPy stated that this land was dedicated as public street and the city would have clif~'iculty returning it to the adjacent property' ok~ner. Leo Pipal from the Soil Conservation District appeared before the council to explain how the city might participate in a drainage district Tong tirith the L~ur~l Golf end Recreation Association and a. group of farmers west of Laurel. Pnr. Pipa1 explained thy; services his departrrent could make ava lak~le to the rl.rainage district. The counc it to study this matter furthe r. fir. ~ Mrs. Leo Kamp Sr. and Leo Kam~~ Jr. were present at the meeting to express their concern over the resolution relating t~o,City County Planning. '!'he Ntayor announced a special meeting to be held on ~iednesday~ June 7, at 7:30, P.l~., to meet with Nike McCollum, City County Planner, and the I,aursl City County Planning Bo~.rd. Dave Powers appeared before the council tv request permission fnr tiro firemen to attend the State Vol. Fire Convention in Libby, I~.ontana, on June 1~, 16, ~ 17. Motion was made by I+'~etzger and seconded by Ebersviller that two men be allowed to attend this convention. Ration carried. Dave Powers also asked the council for a letter supporting the bid to h~.ve the State Vol. Fire Convention in Laurel, in 1973• Dave Powers r. eported that the curbs in front of the i'ire h~rdrants need p~.intecl.. li i i i i Minutes of the City Council of Laurel A l~ir:~aGeorge Fi~gens appeared. before the council requesting to buy or lease same land west of Zaurel near one of the pond. r'i:r. FigJen:s referred to the Rod & Gun Club. A7er1~ Cherry ~.ppeared before the council in complaint about people doing business in Laurel who do not have a City License. It was suggested that a written complaint be presented to the council. Merle a7.so feels that he is the only one in his type o~ business that ha.s to gay a garbage fee. He stated that the city should equally enforce their ordinances to everyone in town. 1~`ierle suggested adding; a separate garbage charge to building pernLits. Street and ~7..1e;~ committee to look into this matter. Parker asked permission to leave the state. ~i:ot on was made by Eberst~iller and seconded by Netz~;er that permission be granted. 1~lotion carried. Kilpatrick reported for Hard, who was sick, that when cars paxk on the corner of Elm .Ave. and NEa~_n Street ears approaching the intersection cannot see oncoming traffic. Referred to the Street and A11ey Committee. Kilpatrick, also reporting for Hard, stated that someth3.ng should be done about the old trailer court on the East end of Town. He stated that the garbage cans don't. have any 13ds. This matter referred to the chief of police to check out and if nothing is done they should issue a citation. Kilpatrick suggested writing Ted Swen.den, State Land Commissioner, concerning land for a sanitary landfill. Kilpatrick stated that he thought some of the high school students had some sound ideas and should be looked a.nto. Kilpatrick suggested that ~ letter be written to the state asking them to put a trsff'ic light on main and First ~~ve. This rriatter turned over to the Street and Alley Conma.ttee. Ebersviller asked about the door to door campaign on dog licenses. Ebersviller r~port~d that Clarence Compton had pissed out and laid on the floor for several days. Ebersviller and Mayor Yovetich to work out something end see if the police could check on these type of people once a day. Rodgers asked permiss3.on to le~.ve the state. 3~iotion was made by ~bersviller and seconded by Parker that permission be granted. 1~'iotion carried. Buzn.s reported on the cemetery and su~g~stPd that a litter be sent to Bob M~nweiler commending him f'or having the cemetery in such good conc~.tion over Memorial Day. Burns reported that the Ceremony in Firemen's Park dedicating the veterans monument on memorial day was real nice. Burns reported that the swimming; pool was scheduled to open Sunday June 11th if everything goes okay. Motion was made by Burns anc~ seconded by :~bersviller that Carl Nianweiler be reinstated for his vacation in lieu of sick leave. N~ot3.on . . ____r J c r~,ra•l~ a. Behm stated t:~at he attended the District meeting of the I~tontana T,~a~ue of Cities and Towns and reported on several things that were discussed at this meeting. He stated that the E.E.A. would be renewed for another year, that more funds were ~.vai.lable. Another item discussed was Hi3 1~.3?0 concerning the State Rx Loci? Fiscal ~ssistanc~ pct in which Laurel would be entitled to approximately $61,000.00. Behm presented each aldermen with a letter to be sent to our con~res~ren supporting this Bi11. Metzler reported drain problem on 11th Street. N.etzger reported that it was the time of year to be thinking about cutting weeds. After discussion, motion wa.s made by Metzger and seconded by Bohm that Bradley draw up a resolution to publish in the newspaper when the city wants people to cut their weeds. Motion carried. ~fa~or y'ovetich reported that Don Peterson would draw up a program for summer recreation if the city wanted to have any kind of a program like this.
