Yov~:tich, at 7:30 o~clock, P.M., on Monday, I~ay 1s, 1972. Upon taking roll call, the following aldermen answered present: I, ~i i Tom Hard Jackson Parker Thomas Kilpatrick Dane Rehm Chuck Rodgers I Bob Burns Arvin Metzger ~ 'i I the minutes of the prev3.ous meting o~ NIay 1, 1972, were read. Ni.ation I I was made by Parker and seconded by ~3u.rns that the minutes be approved as read. Motion cGrried. I Certain reports of the City of Laurel, were presented fbr approval as fol7.ows : City Clerk's Cash report, City Clerk's Trial. Balance and City Treasurer's Financial Statement. ?lotion was made by Rehm and seconded by Metzger that, these reports be approved. Motion carried. Police Judge report was presented f'or approval. N~ot3.on was made by Rodgers and seconded by Burns that this report be approved. NIo~ion carried. Custodian receipt from. the 1st. Security Bank of Laurel, was pre- sent~d for approval as follows LTnited States 'rre~sury Bill ~~.068, dated Niay 8, 1972, due Aug. 10~ 1972 I!, $100,000.00 motion was made by Behm and seconded by 2~etzger that this custodian receipt i, I ire approved ~.s coJ_later~al. Upon t~.kin~ ro11 ca11 vote, all aldermen present voted "Aye". ~I Sanitation report was presented for approval. Notion w~.s made by it ~3ehm and seconded by Rodgers that this report be approved. Motion carried. SJmpathy c~.rd was read from the family of James Metzger. Zetter wa.~ read from Robert Anderson, National Chairman of the United Nations Association, asking that the City of Laurel Proclaim October 21tth as United Nations D~.~. also they would like us to appoint a. United 1Vations Day Chairman. Ps~yor vovetich recommended that Tom Kilpatrick be appointed Chairman. Notion was m~.de by Behm and seconded by ~,odgers that this recommendation be a~~roved. ~9.otion carried. V~! attend if at all possible. Letter was re<d thanking the Mayor ~.nd ~.ldermen for their support in the projects undertaken by the Laurel InToman's Club. Leiter was read from. Leo Pipal, District Conservationists concerning the problems with Srrigation and T~r~inage Ditches. Motion was made by Behm and seconded by Kilpatrick that a lett~:r be written to the Soil Conservation Service inviting them to the next council rrbeeting and request assistance in alleviating these problems. lotion eaxried. A Nfr. Lloyd. Zee presented a placque to John Daley who won first place in an ~~mericaiz Water [nTorks association contest for his outstanding technical paper on the City~s solution to the slush ice problem at the water intake pier. Tn addition, Daley also won a watch. A11 aldermen congratulated John for such a fine fob. i Kilpatrick reported on the memorial in Firemen~s Park and stated that the committee decided on the light for $4.7~ per month. II ~I Kilpatrick reported on some property between 5th A.ve. and 9th Street ~ that didn't have any curb end gutter. After discussion, i~ was suggested that I, a letter be written to a Nirs. Tn'ard in Red Lodge, requesting that curb and butter be installed in this area. I 'i Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Rehm reported that the Cemetery Board ha.d entered into ~ contract ~ I with a private firm to aeriate, fertilize, ~d spray the cemetery and by memorial day the cemetery should look real good. Behm reported that the Aux. Policeman ball was go~.ng to be held on Saturday Ah~ay 7th. i Rehm reported that the street and a11ey committee checked into the matter of the chain link fence behind the telephone company and stated that ever~rthing seems to be okay. Rodgers reported a complaint from the property owner.: on the East side of tT~e Mill 17rive-Sn. These people feel that something should be done to keep the garbage from b1ow~.n~ in their yard. Rodgers suggested that a. letter be written to the Ni11 Drive-In requesting that a fence k~e put up on the East end of their property, and also mention that the sidewalk on main street needs repair. Rodgers requested that the City Engineer make a survey of the City owned parking lot across the street from city ha.7.l. The street and alley committee would like an estimate of how mucY~ it would cost to b1~.cktop this lot and make two new exits on the west side. Engineer to report at the next meeting. Burns reported on the remodeling in the house at Riverside Park. Burns reported that Va11y Hegel ha.s been working on the trees. Burns reported on ~i~oodalls opin~.on concerning Carl N~~nweiler' vacation end sick leave. ~3urns to check into this matter further and write the industrial accident board. He appeared l~sfore the Counci:L to explain one City-county Comprehensive T'lan. In this connection, R.e~olu~ion No. 7.l.~.27 was presented as follows z I Rt~SOLUTIQN No. 1It2?
