Motion carried. Motion was made by Easton and seconded by Burns that the reports of the Police Judge and reports of the patrolmen be approved. Motion carried. With 18 persona attending the meeting, the Mayor ~xpl~a.ned the reasons why h~ requested pet~.~ions for the proposed $2..00 annual ~,sse~sment for the purpose of employing more policemen. The petitions are for the convenience of the public so that each person can ~.ve hip opina.an a~ to whether or not he would be favorable to such an assessment.~~vTh~':~etition~ would be much less expen.~ive than an election. Harold Bender of Harold~s Bier Mug said we need more police. Mrs. McAllister sated that she had could the police adequate, and that some persons probably could xiot afford the asseg~nent. Bob Parker of the Caboose said h~ wo~.ld like to see more police. Walt Menello spoke on this ntatte~. A Harold Mi1.].er said that in Billings the bars hired a bouncer. Mr. McAllister said that he wo~zld hire a bounces' if he could afford it. L~r~hardt talked. Kilpatrick read a letter that the committee had prepared to be sent to the bar owners. Th~r~ was much diseus~ion a~ to ~IeAll.x.s~~r~ s plans for ~ pizza parlor and stated that h~ h~.d a beer license. He discussed what his future plans were. John Moran appeared before the council to offer to split the clifference between $30,00 .00 end ~35~~00.00 for certain property for a future new firs hall. Motion w~$ made by Kil~a~rick and seconded by B~rn~ that the ~neet3nn he recessed for ten minutes for a discussion of this matter. Motion carried. Upon re-convening, Burns reported ghat the pz^ice o£ $32,,~~0.00 b~ aecept~d by the courie3.1, and permission given to the Mayor and the City Clerk to sign the contract. Mr. Moran to be able to keep his building on the premises until July 1, 197l~. Seconded by Rodgers. Motion carr3.ed. Ed LaPr~th appeared before the council 3.n opposition to Daley main. Kilpatrick reported that th+~ water a~ committee had given perAniss3,on for hook-up. Discussion as to the curb and gutter on this property. LaP~~.th is outside the city limits. Al Bond, San3.tarian, requested. council actipn a~n the Cpunty Caam- is8inners proposition of Laurel joining in a Garbage Distr3.ct. S3.nc~ this matter had been tabled, motion was made by Hard and seeond~d by Kilpatrick that the item be taken off the table for di~~ussion. Motion carried. After discussion, emotion wt~ made by Hard that the Laurel Citg Council reject the Crarbage District proposal, and that the City Clerk give notice to the County Commissioners. Seconded by Burns. Motion carr3.ed. Burns reported on expenses for the girls ~rvm the Vita Volunteer. Gamer reported ghat the firemen had cleaned up the underp~s and did a good fob. He alas requested that ~ letter be wri~t~n to the Highway Depart- meat requesting lights for the derp~ss. ~I i I I I Minutes of the City Council of Laurel Barns reported a ~eesting with Peterson on the question of the lights at Athletic Park, and stated that they had arrived at $125.00 in addition to the actual cflst of the lights for the fise~l. year dust ended. Beginning with the fiscal year of 1973-19?~ the school will pad a flat $}25.00 pier season. If th3~ is agreeable with the City Councils an agreement will b~ drawn up for one year. Burns then wade thi$ in the forte of a motion. Seconded b;~ Kilpatrick. Motion caxried with tY~e City Attorney to draw up this agreement. Discussion ~s to the dog catcher. Motion was made by Kilpatrick and seconded by Rodgers that the dog catcher and hiffi du~ie~ b~ investigated by the personnel cea~mittee with s~thority to act. Motion carried. Burns reported that the canmittee Wes bodged down with the union in the matter of wage increases. H~ stated that the ecmm~.~tee~~ r~cammendation of 21¢~ per hour on a one-year cvntr~.ct had not been accepted. Since Eb~rsviller is vut of town, the next meet3.ng on this matter will be October 1, 1973. Rodgers reported that they wire sti11 studying the city lots ~o decide which ones could be ~o1d and which should be kept for the future. Rodgers ~.lso reported that hea h~.d mic e a lisp of dangerous ~idewalk~, curbs, and gutters in his ward. He thought that the Engineer should check this list when he can. Bard presented petition signed bar many residents asking that them bea a curfew plac~;d cm the und~r~age boys and girls. There was ~ucb discussion on this: matter, but it was the opinion of the City Attorney and the Chief of Pol3.ce~ that it could not be enforced to the point where it would be at all effective.
