Minutes of the City Council of Laurel
July 25, 1977
The regular meeting of the City Council being adjourned for consideratipn
of personnel matters, certain items were brought up in order.
1. After discussion of the city portion of the Hospital Insurance, Motion
was made by Massey and seconded by Meyers that since less than twc>-thirds of the employees
chose to take the insurance, that the City should stick to the $10.40 contribution per
employee per month. Motion carried.
2. Discussion of Holidays to be allowed. Motion was made by Ehrlick and
seconded by Meyers to stay with the legal holidays allowed by the State. Listed below.
3. Longevity: At present longevity is $3.00 per year for a maxi~~~u of 2D
years. Union is asking $5.00 per year for 30 years. Motion was eventually made by
Rodgers and seconded by Ehrlick to leave the amount at $3.~0 for 20 years, and in the
event the-city needs a plum, to extend the time to 22 years. Motion carried.
4. Clothing allowance; MAtion was made by Kilpatrick and seconded by Meyers
to ~Llow beginning patrolmen a maximum of $5 .40 for clothing allowance, but with no
maintenance. R~Iotion carried with Carter and Massey voting "no"'.
5. To classify or not to classify. Motion was made by Carter and seconded by
Meyers to go along with the classification this year, depending on the dollar amount.
Motion carried.
6. Ufferring of Dollars and cents. Ehrlick ~iade the motion seconded by Myers
,to offer a top offer of 25~ per hour including benefits - to include the 2% that is already
approved. Motion carried with Massey voting "no".
7. Motion was made by Carter, seconded by Massey that to keep from lay-offs,
to start at LOC per hour, and the offer not to exceed 25G per hour. Motion carried.
8. Motion was made by Metzger and seconded by Carter to try for atwo-year
contract, except for opening for wages only. Motion carried.
9. Mandatory Retirement: Motion was made by Kilpatrick and seconded by Ehrlick
that s mandatory retirement clsusE setting the age at 65 be inserted into the contract.
Motion carried with Rodgers voting."no".
New Year's Day - February 12 - February 22 - l~iay 30th - July 4th - Labor Day -
actober 12th - November 11th - Thanksgiving - Christmas Day. HOLIDAYS.
