A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurel, Mont.,
was held in the Council Chambers and called to order by Mayor Louie Yovetich
at 7:00 o~clock, P.M., on Tuesday, June 1~th, 1974•
Upon taking roll call, the followin.~ aldermen answered present:

Minutes o~ the previous meeting were read. Motion was made by Ebersviller and seconded by Comer that the minutes be approved a.s read. Motion
carried.
Reports of the Sanitarian, and Library reports for April and May
were presented.for approval. Motion was zna.de by Ebersviller anal seconded by
Hard that the reports be approved. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Ebersva_ller and seconded by Gcxner that, the cl~.ims be allowed. Motion carried.
Letter ~.ddressed to Chief of Police fr~n Bill Phillips resignsn~; from
his position. as dog warden was read. Motion was made bar Ebersviller and seconded
by Rodgers that this resignation be accepted. Motion carrx.ed.
Note read from Bligh Phillips requesting permission to have an ice cream concession at the swim. pool, the money to ~o to the cheerleaders of
Laurel High School. Ialata_on was made by Kilp~trick and seconded by ~bersviller
that this matter be tabled until there is more information. Motion carried.
Zetter was read from Thornton, Far~.sh and C~auntt regarcling the issu-
ance of Industrial Revenue Bonds by the City for poise-C~.scade. City attorney spoke on this matter, giving an explanation. This to be discussed more thoroughly
at the next regular council meeting on June 18th.
The Mayor then set June 10th at 7:00 o'clock, P.M., for a special
meeting on several subjects, to be listed separately. Meeti.n~ with Dave
McCullogh on engineering. Regard~n~ ~r~nts available on Sewage L~-isposal Pl~.nt.
Comer asked ~erm~.s~i.on to Leave the State. Motion. was made by
Ebersviller and seconded by H~xd that permission be granted. Motion carried.
C~am~x reported that on the south side the gutters are plugged up
and it is a Health Hazard. The Mayor turned this mG.tter aver to the Planning
and Improvement Committee, and the Chief of Police.
The Mayor then announced to the Council his appointments to the n.ewly-
foxmed Park & Recreation Cammissi on, ~s .follows:
Bob Burns -His term. to coincide with the City Council term
Chet 131ay1ock to a three-year term
Dione Smith to a two dear term. Donna Kilpatrick to a two year term
Gordon Finney to a three-year term. ~ r~
Sam MoUrich -Nis term to coincide with the City Council term.--
Inez jTau~k~r~ to a one-year term
Motion w~.s made by Kilpatra~ekc and s~con.ded by Hard that these appointments be
accepted. Motion carrzed.
Burns reported that done ~nith had been elected Cha.i.rman, Gordon Finney, Vice chairman, and Donna. Kilpatrick, Secretary.
Burns reported on the roof on the Cf.ty Hall. RL~xns to het responsible
persons opinion on this projects and report back to the council.
Burns reported that he needs from =X1,000.00 to X1,500.00 from the Revenue Sharing Funds.
Ebersviller reported that it is the recc~nmendation of the Public
Safety Committee that all City F~nployees except the police must wear safety
k~elmets .
Much discussion on weeds.
Kilpatrick reported that he had several complaints fram teachers.
KilpAtri.ck stated that many of th.e te~.chers desired to compliment the police
department.

Letter was read from Mace Realty as follows
City of. Laurel
La~zrel, Mont.
Dear Mayor Gity Council:
We h.a:,~e proposed a new subdivision located in i~~, N~', Section 9,
T2S~ R21~E~ MFM~ Yellowstone County, Montana. The proposed MaLa..t Subdivi~ion~
if incorporated into the city, would extend between Maryland and 12th Street between 6th '~Ave.:~ and 8th.
Although the subclivision is in the plannin; stages, the State 0~'fice
requires from the developer a letter from the a.pproprz.ate entity stating that
if the final. s~zbdivision is approved, the developer may hook onto the existing
city water and sewer system in order to serve the new development wl~ch will
be incorporated into the city limits. The letter addressed to me will be forwarded to the appropriate stGte agency thus inuring them that after the
final plans ire approved by the City of Laurel, water and sewer hookups are
available.

After discussion, motion was made by Gvmer and seconded by N,odgers that the
City Clerk write a letter stating that when thi.~ property is taken into the City, that water and sewer service will be available. Motion carried.
Kilpatrick requested short water cgrtmittee meeting after the
council meeting.
Easton gave a. report on the equipment which will soon be available for the landfill. Tractor & Equipment has a new machine taming which will
be available August lst. (hz a rental basis for dive years. (Lease purchase
agreement). Special meeting to be held on this subject on June 10th.
Three men including a Mr. Sit~man and Adolph Lenha.rdt appeared before
the council with a ditch problem. Stated that the County Ccxnrni.ssioners would
pair one-th~_rd of the cost; the ditch company would pay one-thirds and requested that the city pay one-third of the cost. This would be approximately $8$7.00.
City Attorney to Check on the legality as t,o whether or not the City could be
involved. in anything outsa_de the citJ. After discussion, motion was made by
Rod;ers and seconded by Easton that the city a~re~ to tL;is, if the city attorney
finds no problem. Motion carried.
Walt ~'enello appeaxed before the council to talk about insurance
coverage that is available to City Employee~~ if desired, and requested. per-
mission fxcxn the City Council to contact the City ~~nployees. Motion was made
by Eber~v~_ller and seconded by Bwrns to permit this. Motion carried.
Henry Philhow~r appeared before the coun.eiZ to request that the city build same horseshoe pits. The Mayor referred this matter to the Park Commission.

to the Mayor asid the aldermen and their wives, to attend any or all of the
sessions of the Firemen's Convention held at R~_verside Park. He also requested
that two firemen be allowed expense for the convention. Motion was made by
Burnu snd seconded b;~ Kilpatrick that two firemen be allowed to attend. Motion
carried.
fob 5trdnd appeared before the council to report on the bad condition
of the tennis coUxts, and requestea repair, nets, and possibly same new eo~?rts.
Mayor referred this matter to the Park Commission.
1`h'ck Metzler wanted permission to have the adams construction clig
another five feet at a cost of approximate? $800.00. Permiss3.on granted
Va11ey Hegel asked that it be mentioned. in the paper that anyone who
wanted their flowers at the Cemetery, to please pick them u~ soon, or th~;y would
be removed.
Dave McC-~1lough reported on the engineering ~.greerien~, and suggested
several items, to be discussed at the special meeta.ng on June 10, 197..

There being no further business to come before the council at this
session, motion was duly made and seconded that the meet~_rag be adjourned.
Motion carried.
