Minutes of the City ~,;ouncil of Laurel
February 19, 197.
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Laurels Montana,
was held in the Council Chambers, and was called to order by Mayor Louis M. Y'ovetieh, at 7:00 o~clock, P.M., on Tuesday, February 19, 197l~.
Upon taking roll call, the following aldermen answered presents

Chuck Rodgers Bob Burns Henry Gomer
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Motion was made by
Ebersviller grad. seconded by Easton that the minutes be approved as read.
Motion carried.
Thank you card was read from Frances Fisher far flowers sent by
the council.
Certain reports of the City of Laurel, Montana, were presented as
follows: Library report for Januarys reports of the Polio Judge f'or December
and January, reports of the Patro]xnen for December, and City Treasurer's
Financial report for January. Motion was made by Eber~viller that the reports
be approved. Kilpatrick stated to withhold this matter until the aldermen were given a change to study the reports. Ebersviller withdrew his mot3.on.
Letter was read with new Forms attached from the Departanent of
State Highways. The Mayor referred this to the City Engine~~.
Letter addressed to the Fire Chief from Kamp of the County Camm- issioners, enclosing letter from Earl Morrow of Civil Defense, autharizin~
the Chief to go to Helena to purchase certain surplus merchandise.
Motion way again made by Ebersviller and seconded by Kilpatrick
that the previously presented reports b~ approved. Motion carried.
A Mr. Larry Barker and a Randy Parents representing Standard Life Insurance Company appeared before the Council to talk on Cancer Insurance.
They were referred to the President of the Union to appear a.t th€~ir next
meeting.
Kent Harris appeared before the Council requesting final council
approval on the feasib3.lity study suggesting Steens ,Th xnpson & Runyan in connection with Hurlbut, Kersich, and McCullough. Bradley reported on this.
The Mayor stated that the $5,000.00 that was budgeted for Parks was going to
be used for this money, which is the City~s Share. After much discussion,
motion was made by Easton and seconded by Burns that the council ~o along
with the report of the committee, and the Mayor given the authority to sign
the feasibility study contract. Motion carried.
The mayor stated that Mrs. Adams, representing the Unity Garden Club
desired to put up some benches on the ~treet~ for the older folks so they
could rest. It was the opinion of the council that this matter should be
turned over to the Planning and Improv~m~nt Cc7mmitte~. Same of the council
thought this should b~ turned over to the Police Department and the City
Engineer.
The Mayor stated that a Zaurel resident should be on the Gity-
County Library committee. The nine of ?~i11ie Blaylock, ~nong others, wa.~
su~~ested.
Mayor and council discussed, sidewalks, cross-walks, caution liter,
etcetera, at the new Burlington Northern Housing development. City Engineer
to contact the Bi7_lings Highway Engineer as to a light.
Burns reported that there hud been no decision regarding the soft
ball park for the Wognen's Softball Le~.gue~ but that he felt that something
could be worked out.
Mayor reported on the dog problem again. He is in favor of an
assessment on the people, the same as for snow removal., with the money being earmarked for Dog Control. City Attorney stated that he did not believe
this could be done, but that he would look it up. Gamer said he would be
only too glad to pay X1.00 der year to get rid of the do g.
Rodgers reported that Dr. Rosselot might want to take the doggy
back again. Tt was reported that there was one application from a college
student .for part tame dog-catcher. Everyone reminded .that after April lst the dog licenses are to be doubled.
The Mayor reported that he attended a meeting and dinner for Crime
Control Week. He said that he was very proud of Laurel's Chief of Police
and our Police Department. Kilpatri.ek made a motion to thank Lenhardt for
the good fob and to keep up the good work. Seconded by Rodger . Motion carried.

Minutes of the Gity council of Laurel
The Mayor stated that there had been lot of controversy regarding
the evaluation tests.
Burns stated he wag not in favor of granting the use of Riverside
Hall to the Class of 196 for their class re-union, and suggested they might
use the Rod and Gun Club. Burns also gave a report on signs and the painting
of Riverside Park by youngsters who want to work. Burns reported that people
want firewood, and that if there is no City liability, persons may be granted permission to cut certain trees, and use the wood.
Burns stated that while the Council went on record as supporting
the Mayor in his suit against Yellowstone County on the financing of the multi-u
use building, he felt that the Council should inci~.vidually help ~by donating
to the cause, and suggested $25.00 each. He then made the motion seconded bar
Ebersviller that the members of the Council give the $25.00. Motion carried.
Rodgers complimented Daley and the City Crew for the beautification
of the City darn. also complimented Chief Lenhardt, and Ken Beven for their
monthly reports.
Easton reported on the City County Planning, and the State Land Board.
Kilpatrick reported that aseptic tank had been installed at the
ltiater Plant.
Kilpatrick asked if there were any restrictions toward putting up
a metal building.
Lenhardt reported on the Crime Control mEeting, and displayed a.
placque he had received. I~enhaxdt stated a, committee should be set up to work
out a. city police and County Sheriff's office consolidation. A member of the
council should be on this ccxnmittee. It was decided that the Mayor should
make this decision
Lenhardt have a lengthy report at the end of the meeting, after the M~;yor asked to be excused to answer a call to work.
There being no further business to ccxne before the council a.t this
sessions motion was duly made and seconded that the meeting be adjourned.
Motion carried.
