H. Ebersviller~ Sr.~ in the absence of the Mayor who was ill, at 7:00 o'clock, P.M., on Tuesday, February 5th, 197!1. Upon taking roll ca11, the following alderman answered present: H. Ebersviller Tam Hard Chuck Rodgers Ervin Metzger ~ Gaylord Easton Henry Gamer Tom Kilpatrick Bob Burns ~ i The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Motion was made by Gamer ~ and.~seconded by Hard that the minutes be approved a5 read. Motion carried. Certain reports of the City of Laurel were presentEd for approval as follows: City Treasur~r~s Financial report for the month of December, and Libra~r Reports for Dee~nber and January. Motion. was ~cnade by Metzg~:r and seconded by Kilpatrick that these reports be approved. Motion carried. Motion carried. A request was pre~~nted by the Laurel High School Class of 1961 for the use of .Riverside Hall for a banquet and dance on Satixrday night, July 6th 1971~~ for a clasp reunion. After discussion, motion was made by Rodgers, and seconded by Kilpatrick that this matter be turned over to a ccanmi~t~e with authority to act. Ebersv311er then turned this over to the Pla~nnin~ and Improvement Committee. Motion carried. Mrs. Roxene Harman andl~rs. Ruth Cole attended the meeting witY~ a request from the Laurel Federated Women's Club for permission-~:#ro create a park on the south side of West Main Street between Darigold and tha Wagon Wheel Motel. They would also need some more dir~G. After discussion, motion was made by Kilpatrick and seconded by Hard to give every possible assistance to the club for this purpose. Motion carried. Metzger stated that dogs wire again becoming a problem ~.n Laurel. After discussion, motion was made by Metzger and seconded by Burns that this matter b~ turned back to the Public Safety Ccxnmittee for a report at the next meeting. Motion carried. Much discussion on this matter. Gom~r brought up the subject of Dr. Turcotte~s sign on Rains property. City Engineer stated that he had a survey of this property, and that the sign was on City property. Tt was the opinion of the council that this matter should be settled between Dr. Turcotte and the property owner. Burns reported that a Minnie Sonnymaker had asked for enough material to make some decent signs advertising Riverside Park. The Chief of Police report- ed on this and suggested that Burns contact Kent Harris. Rodgers presented a request frcan the Volunteer Fire Department for the use of Riverside Hall for the Firernen~s convention on June 6th, 7th, and 8th with the possibility of a dance on the 8th. Motion was made by Rodgers and seconded by Metzger that this rriatter be turned over to camrnitt~e with authority to act, and the committee to contact Marvin Carter with their' decision. Notion carried. Rodgers reported -hat the committee had approved the evaluation test for the City Employees, and that the date would be February 12th. February 12th being a day when the City offices are colsed, Kilpatric~e called the evaluator and had the date chanaec] t~ the i ~+.r _ _ ._O. ~ r~ vra~ Rodgers brought up the sub~e~t o~ a different system of reporting the activities of ¢`ity Employees, the reports to be presented to the council tnonthly~ frcan each department. Th3.s system to be on a trial basis for a year. City Engineer reported that there had been much improv~m~nt during the 1a~t few year's and felt that the ~yste~n in force at this time was working nicely. After discussion, motion was made by Rodgers and seconded by Metzger that the monthly reports sy$tem be put into effect immediately. Motion carried. Request to the Council from the M. D. U. for permission to park a 11a, x 82-foot trailor in front of the M.D.U. for an 8-hour display, oi~ Apr3.l 8th. lotion was made by Metzger and seconded by Rodgers that permission be granted. Chief of Police stated that a pex~nit should came from the Police Depart~rcent. Motion and second were withdrawn. County Sanitarian attended the meeting regard~.ng an out~ide~ resident who was collecting garbage. There being no fzzrther busin~s~ to come before the council at this time motion was made by I~+Iet~ger and seconded by Rodgers that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.
