Bob Worthington from MMIA attended the meeting to address liability issues.
There was discussion on bus parking in the right-of-way on West Main Street.
The Director of Public Works sent letters to the bus companies asking them to
attend this committee meeting and give their input, but no response was received
from the companies.
Bob Worthington suggested that the city . sends certified letters to the bus
companies for their input and that the city starts enforcing the parking in the right-
of-way ordinance.
There was discussion on the encroachment at the Caboose Saloon. A letter was
sent to the owner and Larry McCann delivered a letter in person to the owner.
Bud Johnson asked Bob Worthington for input. Bob suggested that when an issue
becomes known, the city should pursue it through the ordinance. It becomes a
liability issue if it is not pursued.
The committee discussed the curb and gutter issue at the Welcome Travelers
Motel. The motel wants to put in curb and gutter. Bob Worthington said that
curb and gutter is a traffic issue.
Motion by Marvin Carter to send a notice to Terry Fink, owner of the Caboose
Saloon, to appear on the encroachment issue, seconded by Gary Temple. Motion
carried.
Director of Public Works, Larry McCann, will set up a meeting with Terry Fink,
the state traffic engineer and the owner of the Welcome Travelers Motel to
discuss the item of curb and gutter before the notice to appear on encroachment is
sent.
Bob Worthington discussed the liabilities on the ditches running through the city.
Larry informed the committee about the sidewalk, curb and gutter which is being
replaced west of City Hall, by the library and by the pool.
