Members present: Chairman Don Hackmann Margit Thorndal James Snively , Bob Gauthier B. Other's present: Alan Crowe, Police Chief A quorum 0 or more) present the following action was taken by the committee: Don reported that he has contacted Peg Arnold, City Librarian, regarding the availability of materials for handicapped individuals. She will provide a written report by October 30, 1984. Don also reported that he has contacted the Fire Chief, Darrell McGillen, regarding fire alarms for the hearing impaired, and he will contact the State Fire Marshall for information. Alan Crowe was present to discuss handicap parking. The committee recommends a parking space in front-of City.Hall, one space across the street in the City parking lot and one at the FAP Complex. An ordinance will probably have to be passed designating these areas for handicapped parking. The City's job application was reviewed, and it was recommended that we continue using this one as it seems to meet the criteria for Section 504. Merle Cherry has not completed the construction estimate, but this should be completed by October 30th. Curb cuts for wheelchairs and handicap people was discussed. It appears that the State of Montana will be making several on 1st Avei_.:e when they do the overlay in 1985. There may also be some planned for Main Street in 1986. Dave Michael will find out more abou- this at a meeting next week in Billings.- Curb cuts around City parks was also discussed. This should be reviewed again next year during the budget process and included in the 1985-86 budget. The policies of secondary recipients need to be reviewed. Bob Gauthier will contact the Laurel Senior Citizens, Don Hackmann will contact Paul Peterson for the Transcient (Poor) Fund, and Agnes Crowe of the Senior Helping Hands Program and have them attend our next meeting on October 30th at 4:30 p.m. to review their policies, etc. It was decided not to contact the coordinator of the Drug Abuse Program since the school system has to already comply with the handicapped regulations.
