A quorum (3 or more) present the following action was taken by
the committee:
Discussed handicapped parking in the Laurel business district.
It was suggested that this committee meet jointly with the
Parking Committee to review the possibility of putting in
designated areas in downtown Laurel. Alan Crowe will check
to see how many handicapped parking licenses and/or decals
that have been issued in Laurel.
Sam Mourich, representing the United Methodist Church, was
present to discuss handicapped parking in front of the church.
Possibly 3 spaces. However, the committee felt that this
being in a residential neighborhood and the designation is
permanent (24--hours a day) that 3 spaces were too many.
After more discussion it was suggested that on-street handicap
parking be studied further.
It was also suggested that the church go on an honor system
and tell the members that a certain area is reserved for
handicapped parking, without it being striped or signed.
Possibly a combination of one designated space and the honor
system would work.
Don and Alan Crowe will try to gather more information to
bring to the next scheduled meeting on December 4, 1985, at
4:30 p.m.
