OTHERS PRESENT:

Mike Atkinson reported that Darlena Boyd will be resigning
effective September 15, 1995. He asked the committees'
permission to hire Susan Canape as her replacement. Motion
by Albert Ehrlick, seconded by Lonnie Kellogg to hire Susan
Canape. Make also explained that he will explain to her that
her long-term employment might be in doubt due to the fact that
we haven't received monies for the Federal Grant for the ninth
officer.
Mike informed the committee on the following;
1.) Connie Lind, Animal control officer, is starting to
patrol the entire city for abandoned vehicles. She is
starting in the north-west corner of the city and will
proceed across Laurel, finishing on the south-side.
2.) Mike reported that he has met with the new Superintend-
ant of Schools and together they will be formulating a
bomb policy and a Crisis Intervention Unit.
3.) Mike reported that officers will now be checking on
and issuing warnings for Delivery Permits.
4.) Mike reported that he will be having a meeting with
all dispatchers. He indicated that morale and job
performance is way down. He indicated that written warnings
will be issued and corrective action taken.
It was the consensus of the committee that more Police
Committee meetings be held, only if for the purpose of updates
so that the City Council can be aware of what is happening.
The new computer system was discussed and Mike reported
that he will have more information at the next committee meeting.
