POLICE COMMITTEE
FEBRUARY 6, 1997 7:30 P.M.
FAP COMPLEX
MEMBERS PRESENT:

Officer Mark Guy brought in a proposal for changing the current
retirement program from the Public Employees Retirement System to
the Police Officers Retirement System. Several instances that were
discussed for changing the system were to be competitive with
Yellowstone County and the City of Billings in recruiting new
officers and to stop our police department from being a training
department for others in the state. Committee members were
favorable to the proposal but would like to see more information on
it. The committee recommended that Officer Guy meet with the City
Attorney to make sure all of the legal requirements were met and
then make a presentation to the City Council at a Committee of the
Whole meeting in late March or April.
Other issues discussed were the 1997-98 City budget for the Police
Department and changing the City Court to a Municipal Court.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held on
March 6th at 7:30 p.m. at the FAP Complex.
