Minutes
City Hall
August 8, 1998 4:30 p.m.
Attending: Gay Easton, Rick Musson, Bill Staudinger,
Norman Orr, Dirk Kroll, Ken Olson, Gary Temple
Discussion on the Police Department's Adopt-A-Cop for the
elementary schools. Rick stated that the program is still around but
that with the recent turnover in officers the program has been difficult
to staff. Gay discussed having the need for better communication
between the school board and the department about this program.
The status of the drug dog was also discussed. Rick asked the
committee for final approval of the dog. He would like this issue
decided one way or the other. There was discussion on availability,
need, and cost of the dog program. Bill Staudinge?r moved, Norman Orr
seconded to recommend final approval to the City Council the drug dog
program. Motion passed.
Rick reported on applying for Enhanced 911 funds. He stated that
E-911 could take up to 12 to 18 months to start this in Laurel. This
program would give Police, Fire, and Ambulance more information that
they need to respond to calls. This would be worthwhile for the City to
look into further.
The repeater being installed, Jason Wells and Shane Weinreis
attending the academy, a uniform change, and cleaning up of FAP
complex was also discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Dirk Kroll, Chairman
