March 27, 1997
5 P.M.
Attending: Gay Easton, Bill Staudinger, Andy Loebe,
Donna Kilpatrick, chairman
Others: Ed George, Little League; Gary Timm and Joe
Meyer, Legion Baseball
The representatives of the Laurel Baseball Organization in
attendance provided a list of plans they have for maintenance at Athletic
Field for this summer. They would like to:
1. install a chain link fence to enclose the bleacher area. cost:
$3500.
2. concrete the batting cage.
3. install bins for sand, red clay, etc. made out of perhaps
railroad ties.
4. add on to the old concession stand by perhaps installing
an announcers booth on top of the building.
5. Requesting financial assistance from the city at
budget time.
The groups would also like to again hire a concession stand
manager. Last year the manager received $500 per month plus a
percentage of the sales after a certain amount had been reached. They
reported the manager received about $2200 for the season. The
committee took no action on the manager proposal. The arrangement
worked well for the organization as volunteers were hard to find to
operate the concession stand and losses were better kept to a minimum.
Bill moved, Gay seconded that we allow the Joliet schools to use
the tennis courts on the afternoons of April 15, 22, and 29. Motion
carried.
A request from the Laurel Herbstfest to give to the city an electric
pole placed near the location of the beer tent in Thomson Park was taken
under advisement. Two other poles in that area, that were used to secure
the beer tent, will also be studied to see if they should be removed.

We have received some response from the advertisement in the
paper for lifeguards. The committee agreed that letters should be sent to
former lifeguards inviting them to apply.
The committee recommended that the Peaks to Prairie event be
allowed in Riverside Park, April 27, (May 11 a rain day) from 7 a.m. to
2 p.m.
Representatives of the Army Corp of Engineers were at Riverside
Park Thursday and met with Andy and Jim Flisrand concerning the
anticipated high water in the park this year. The dikes need to be raised
about two feet in two areas.
The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Donna G. Kilpatrick,
chairman
