Attending: Bill Brennan, Gay Easton, Dave Michael, Jim Flisrand, Andy Loebe, Bill Staudinger, Donna Kilpatrick, chairman Others: Ann Easton, Carl Hollobaugh, Jean Carroll Thompson, Greg Thomas Ann Easton, recreation director, explained the summer recreation program. Fliers were sent home with students prior to the last day of school. Registration will be held June 5 and fo . A copy of the planned sessions is attached. She checked with AI McMilan, school superintendent, and will be allowed to use the school computers, the gym at South School for tumbling, and the school cafeteria at Graff for arts and crafts. Eleven different classes will be offered plus the swiming classes. She will work with Henry Griffith, manager at the pool to coordinate the swimming program. A class on how to teach swimming lessons will be offered to the lifeguards interested in teaching swimming lessons. Jean Carroll Thompson requested the use of Fireman's Park on July 25 and 26 for an event, "Christmas in July" sponsored by the Christmas to Remember, Inc. to be held in conjunction with Crazy Days. There'll be arts and crafts, the longest banana split, games for kids, etc. Bill Staudinger moved, Bill Brennan seconded, that we allow the use of Fireman's Park on July 25 and 26 for the event during Crazy Days and to put up the sign advertising the Dec. 6 CTR event during the month of November on the sign posts on the edge of Fireman's Park and the Festival in the Park advertisement in September. Motion carried. Jim moved, Gay seconded that we accept the proposal from the Coch Tennis Court Service for $1,450 to seal cracks in the tennis courts. Motion carried. Dave moved, Bill Staudinger seconded that we appoint Carl Hollobaugh temporary caretaker at Riverside Park until July 1. Herb Mobs has served as caretaker there and will resign effective July 1. Herb has moved from the house in Riverside Park. Park Committee May 22, 1997 5 P.M. Gay moved, Bill Brennan seconded that we increase the swimming pool fees from $1.00 per individual swim to $1.25 and the book of 20 passes to $12.50. Motion carried. Discussion was held on the salaries to be paid for swimming pool personnel. Suggested wages were $6.25 fro manager; $5.75 for assistant manager; $5.25 for head lifeguard; and $4.75 for lifeguards. Anticipating high water during the summer at Riverside Park,the committee suggested that the fees charged for parking at Riverside Park be a flat $7.50 per day. The committee will review leases of those buildings in Riverside Park. Greg Thomas of the Little League attended the meeting with plans for erecting a shed on the east side of the minor league field and an underground watering system in that field. The committee referred Thomas to Jim Flisrand to work out the details of the plans. PTime: alace Lanes 2 Sessions: Times: 9 -9:45 Ages 6 and up Ages: 5 years and up 10 - 10:45 Cost: $5.00 11-11:30 Ages 3-5 11:30 - 12 July?-18 July 21 - August 1 Cost: $12.00/session TUMBLING Diane Trerise will once again be teaching our tumbling classes. Bask tumbling for beginners will include somersaults, headstands, handstands and cartwheels. More advanced students will work on front and back handsprings and aerial cartwheels. New stunts will include working with a partner for power tumbling. We blend ground tumbling, gymnastics and acrobatics for this class. 2 Sessions - June 16 - 19 July 28 - 31 South School Gym Ages: 3 and up. Boys and Girls Cost: 520.00/session Family rates avaiable 111 TENNIS Katie Trerise is also returning to teach tennis skills. Participants will learn basic forehand and backhand strokes along with lobs, serving styles and net skills. You wig also be learning the basic guidelines and game rules. Session - July 7 - 10 Times: 9 - 10 A.M. 10 - 11 A.M. Thompson Park Tennis Courts Ages: 6- 10 years and 11 and older frost: 316.50/session INTERNET FOR KIDS BASIC COMPUTERS FOR KIDS INTERNET FOR BIG KIDS (ADULT) Separate classes to interest and teach kids and adults to Use the internet and also develop basic computers skills. LHS Library computer and internet stations Ages: K- 6th grade, 7th grade and up, adults cost $12.00 ROLLER SKATING Starlite Roller Rink will be offering roller skating lesson to the youth of Laurel. Participants will learn to start and stop, forward and backward skating, spins, shoot the duck and the limbo. Starlite Roller Rink All ages cost: $12.00 CHEERLEADING Slow your spirit -- learn the bask of cheerleading from the Laurel High School cheerleaders- They will present jumps, chants, routines and team spirit. Thompson Park Ages: 6 and up cost $12.00 Time to be determined later. Additional classes to be organized : AFTER-SCHOOL NO-COOK SNACKS Learn to make tasty snacks without cooking. LHS Home-ec room Ages 7 -10, 11 and up Peggy Kotur - A La Carte manager Cost: $16.00 Includes supplies SOCCER CLINIC Learn to kick, dribble, trap, and pass the soccer ball. Murray Park Ages: 6 and up Cost.. $12.00 ARTS AND CRAFTS Spend a week making various art and crafts projects. Projects will be provided for various age levels. Class will use either Thompson park or South School gym. Ages: 10 and up cost. $12.00 ADVENTURE CAMP Bird walks, learn to fish, making and flying kites, and a variety of other fun aclivities using different Laurel locations. Thompson Park shelter and other locations Ages: 3-6, 7 and up cost: $16.00 includes supplies ljAvn brsie, FUN DOG TRAINING BY BFARCLIFF Learn how to have fun and handle your dog with the help or Kat Lee, an experienced dog trainer.
