HomeMy WebLinkAboutPark Committee Minutes 07.22.1997Park Committee Meeting
July 22, 1997
5:oo p.m. to 6:14 p.m.
Attending: Miles Walton, Andy Loebe, Bill Brennan, Bill Staudinger, Gay
Easton, Jim Flisrand,
Donna Kilpatrtick, chairman
Others: Edie Montgomery, Carl Hollobaugh
Mrs. Montgomery attended the meeting in regard to a policy at the
swimming pool that prohibits bringing swimming toys or accessories into the pool.
She had requested that her small son who cannot swim be allowed to wear a life
jacket in the pool and perhaps go off the diving board if he wished. The guards told
her the policy did not allow for that. She claimed she was treated rudely by the pool
personnel. Following much discussion, the committee took the matter under
advisement and Jim will check with other pools concerning the policy they have on a
like situation.
Carl asked about the posssibility of pumping out the well in Riverside
Park to see if it could be cleared of contaminated water. Andy will check into that
possibility. There is no water in the park right now due to the construction of the
highway and Carl said we are losing much revenue from campers who have to move
on to water- accessible sites.
The committtee allowed the use of the pool after hours on Aug. 15 by
the Laurel Baptist Church if they have adequate insurance for such an outing. The
church will pay the cost of the lifeguards salaries.
The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department requested the use of picnic
tables from the parks for the corn feed they have planned on Aug. 1.6. Most tables
are stationery and cannot be moved and the very few we have are in bad shape and
cannot be used. Tables in the shelter cannot be moved because the shelter has been
reserved for that day.
The meeting adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
Respectfully spbmitted,
Donna G. Kilpatrick,
chairman
