October 23, 1997
5 p.m.
Attending: Gay Easton, Miles Walton, Bill Staudinger, Bill
Brennan, Dave Michael, Andy Loebe,
Donna Kilpatrick, chairman
Others: Ernie Freund, Laurel Rod and Gun Club;
Steve Krum, Laurel Rifle Club
Jim Eastman, Laurel Jaycees
Henry Lich, Laurel Horseshoe Pitchers Club
Also invited to attend: Representatives of the Laurel
American Legion and the Laurel Search and Rescue,
organizations which also hold building leases in Riverside
Park.
Leases with the city for organizations occupying buildings in
Riverside Park expire at the end of November. The commitee members
are currently reviewing the leases and set Monday, Oct. 27 to tour the
buildings.
Discussion was held on the length of the time for which the
leases cover and agreed five years for the lease is appropriate. Currently
the leasees pay $1 for the five-year period. Some discussion was held on
increasing that figure but no decision was made. Discussed included $1
per year for a total of $5 up to $10 per year for a total of $50. The
matter of renewing the leases will be on the agenda of the Nov. 18 city
council meeting. A clause providing for an annual tour of the buildings
will be included in the new leases. Some discussion was held on a
problem that exists between the Laurel Rod and Gun Club and the
Laurel Rifle Club concerning use of the firing range in Riverside Park.
The two groups will be asked to work out their differences or the park
committee will assume responsibility of the use of that range.
A problem exists with the electrical line to the horseshoe
pitching club building. Dave will check with Ace Electric and Montana
Power to see if the problem can be resolved.
