PARKS COMMITTEE
NOVEMBER 25, 1998 5:00 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mark Mace Larry McCann
Gay Easton Andy Loebe
Miles Walton
Leonard Diercks, a representative of the Laurel Girls' Softball Association, asked the committee
if they could offer any help with the fields west of Wood's Powr-Grip. They requested the
possibility of getting some relief with their water bill or of purchasing fertilizer or sand together.
The committee did not agree to anything at the present time. The committee told them that they
could visit with the Public Utilities Committee about their water bill, but did not expect that
anything would be changed.
Discussion about the dog show that Rhonda Dillman requested to hold at Riverside Park. She
was invited to speak to the committee, but did not attend this meeting. She will be invited to the
December or January meeting to give her presentation.
Discussion on a letter received from the Yellowstone County Parks Board regarding an offer to
buy the park that lies on Eighth Street in Nutting Subdivision. They would like to know our
opinion and how we feel about the sale of this park. Discussion followed as to why we may
want to keep the park or why we would want to sell it. Larry McCann moved that we notify
the Yellowstone County Park Board that the park should be kept, seconded by Gay Easton.
We are not quite sure where our parks are going to line up and how the subdivisions will align
themselves at this point. The Park Board is in the process of discussing a master plan to
determine where the parks will be located, and the committee does not want to change anything
at the present time. Motion carried.
Discussion on old business regarding the possibility of requiring applications for usage of the
parks. Some information has been gathered, but since it is not complete, the matter will be
postponed until the January meeting.
Discussion as to the amount of parking taking place in Thomson Park. The committee will ask
the mayor to request that the Police Department be more stringent in their ticketing of vehicles in
that area. The parking problem has gotten out of hand, and many people who should not be
parking there continue to do so. There was further discussion about installing signage and
gateage there to prevent parking in that area. Mark Mace will investigate what signage is used in
the parks in Billings.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
)Y4 Walton
