Chuck Goldy gave a presentation on the structural condition
of the old Library. He feels it has a few problems but nothing
that cannot be fixed.
Jim Flisrand agreed with Chuck on his findings of the old
Library. He would like to see the heating system updated.
Roy Williams, Elsie Johnston, and Sandy Stevenson spoke in
support of the proposed museum at the old Library.
Laurel Business Association spokesman, Richard Barnhardt,
would like to see the Committee postpone any recommendation to the
Council for 30 days. He would like to make a written recommendation
of what he feels should be placed in the building.
Larry Herman spoke in support of the museum but wants the
Committee to also remember that the issue of public safety has to
be addressed on behalf of the handicapped people who cannot climb
the stairs to the present Council Chamber and Courtroom.
Milt Wester spoke in support of the museum.
Polly VanNice inquired as to why the Committee waited so long
before meeting. Donna Kilpatrick said that Polly should consider
that they were waiting for the Library to move out and for Chuck
Goldy to evaluate the building.
Public Hearing was closed.
The Committee decided to postpone their recommendation for
another week to give them time to discuss the details. The next
meeting was set for November 29th at 5:00.
