HomeMy WebLinkAboutLaurel Airport Authority Minutes 05.27.1985MINUTES OF THE LAUREL AUTHORITY May 27, 1985 -Meeting was called to order by Chairman Smith. Attending the meeting were Dave Powers, Guy Stormont, Kent Harris and Claude Cory. Jeff Doty Airport manager was in attendence. Also attending the meeting was Rick Sanford, Bob Redding, Mary McKamy, Terry Fatzinger, and Richard.Heriemer came in late.' Larry Wyman and Jim Felts from the firm of MIM a engineering firm out of Billings, Montana attended the meeting to present their prospectus to continue act,as the enginering farm for the Laurel Airport. Nil Pierson an engineer from the firm of Morrison & Mairle out of Helena Montana met with four members of the authority-over lunch today and.presented his firms qualification to act as.air port engineers. He left a book of the their qualification and experience in their working with the FAA on airport projects and a resume of other work they have done. in Montana. Larry Wyman and Jim Felts presented their proposal for engineer projects at the Laurel Airport. They also left a book of their qualifications and experience in .this line of work. The also informed the board that they could have a preapp into the FAA within two weeks after start'of preparing the application. Minutes were read of the March 26, meeting and the April 23, 1985 minutes were read and corrections were made to the minutes. Kent Harris attended the Arpil meeting and not the March meeting as he had been appointed at this time. First order of business was the approval of the budget for 1985 1986 fiscal year. Question was raised about the airport improvement of $223,000. It was explained that this was the money needed to repair runway 13. Taxiway extension and prepare the other commercial site for new or additional hangers. Mary McKamy askes about the salary increase from $1,100.00 to $2,200.00. This was explained it would take this amount to keep the airport weeds mowed and the runways free of snow during the winters months. Mary suggested that we should work weekend whereby the air- craft owners and hangers owners met one Saturday each month and perform all the necessary chores or what ever work that has to be done. This met with the approval of the Airport Authority as stated it would save money and Mary and Bob Redding stated that the aircarft owners and hangers owners would be glad to help in this manner. Bob suggested we start with the first saturday of each month. This met with with approval of everyone attending and the first saturday of June 1985 was designated as the first work day at the airport. There appeared no more discussion on the budget Dave Powers moved for the approval of the budget as printed. Seconded by Guy Stormont. Motion passed. Chairman Smith mentioned that he had some complaints from pilots about the jumpers creating a hazard at the Laurel Airport. It appears that the Billings Airport Tower doesnot notify all pilots landing at the Laurel Airport of jumping in progress at the airport.. Rick Sanford suggest that we get together with the jumpers, perhaps some from the tower in Billings and a member from the Laurel pilots and talk it over to work something arrangement for safety with all interest parties can use the air space over the Laurel Airport. At this same time it was also suggested that Mr. Milligan and Mr. Knowlton from the Ultra Light community attend a meeting and discuss the use of the taxi way for landing and takeoff. Chairman Smith also reported on the meeting or talks with the insurance adjustors concerning the repair of the taxiway that was damaged during the erection of the hanger.that teve Romines built last year. So far nothing has been done and it was suggested that we mail.them a letter stating that if we donot hear something by June 10, 1985 we start legal action to collect money due us to repair the taxi- way. -` ft p ?"?` r je Chairman Smith reported again on the fifteen acres we lease from the State Land Board. They are still holding firm to the $1,500.00 per year rent on this acreage. Our lease is goad until 1992. It was suggested that maybe we could purchase it but it was thought that it may be too expensive to buy. Someone asked if it would hinder the operation of the airport if we just let the State Land Board take the acreage back. Dave and Guy said it was good to have the grass landing strip there expecially if there was a strong west wind blowing., No further business to come b4ore the Airport Authority, meeting adjourned.
