Laurel Airport Authority

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chair-
man John Smith. The Chairman explained the purpose of the
meeting was to review the master plan procedure and to solicit
input from Interested parties.
Craig Canfield of H.K.M. Introduced himself as the pro-
ject director. He explained the elements which go into develop-
ing a master plan, and requested input into the plan. He stated
that the last master plan was developed in 1980 and that master
plans are required by the F.A.A. The plan examines the use of
the airport and what improvements are needed. An inventory of
the airport is done to assess the existing facility. Fore-
casts are made as to future use of the airport. In planning
for the future,environmental concerns must also be taken into
consideration. Mr. Canfield provided blueprints of the airport. pl?k
He addressed areas of concern regarding: object free area,
spacing of runways and taxiways, line-of-sight, pavement,
apron and pilot facilities. He further discussed the need
for a runway that would accommodate general aviation aircraft
with a length of 5100 feet. Mr..Canfield provided options
as to how to provide a 5100 foot runway.
Discussion was held throughout the presentation with sug-
gestions being made. The advantages and disadvantages to
moving the runway were developed from the audience. Mr. Can-
Field noted the suggestions and will take them into considera-
tion in formulating the master plan.
Those in attendance beside authority members were: Frank
Felke, John, Babor, Muriel Zahm, Bob Redding, Donald Sunnor-
borg, Bill Thorndal, John Lowry, Joel Mickolio, Don Crilly,
and one other signature which was not legible.
