Minutes:
The minutes of the November 18, 2008 meeting were read and approved.
Correspondence
A donation of a fainting couch (settee) was made to the library by Nancy
Thomas.
Circulation Report
Traffic for November 2008 was up 4.3% over November 2007. Circulation
for materials was up 15.88% from November 2007. Circulation of books
alone was up 15.46% over last November. The biggest increase in circulating
items was in media - 19.4%. There were also 609 internet computer users for
the month of November and 23 children's computer users. The total computer
use is down from October 2008.
Old Business
Gail sent a letter to Bill Sheridan requesting that pay increases be put into
effect for library staff, effective July 1, 2008. The response was that the issue
was put on the City Council Agenda for December 16, 2008. If the Council
approves the item, pay raises will be in effect immediately.
The library website is making progress. There are links to various databases
that the library subscribes to as well as the online catalog. Besides the catalog
the links include Heritage Quest (genealogy research), Global Road Warrior
(country information search), FAFSA (federal college student aid), Annual
Credit Report (free credit report sponsored by US Government), and the City
of Laurel.
The panels for the lockers have arrived and are in the process of being
installed. Hopefully they will be installed by the next meeting.
We have had 6 community service workers at the library over the last 3
months. They have all completed their required time except two: we asked
that one worker be released to work elsewhere because she was not `working'
and we decided that another worker will only be allowed to finish out 40
hours here with the other 40 hours being served with someone else. Nancy
will report further on this next month.
It was decided that Nancy will do one more staff evaluation on the employees
still on probation. There seems to be an inability to follow the chain-of-
command in regards to authority. Even though Geralyn is primarily in charge
of the day-to-day workings in the library some staff members feel that they do
not have to follow her authority.
New Business
The book sale in November made about $900 in sales.
Rachelle Tresch has been chosen as the new Library Board Trustee. She will
start at the next meeting in January.
Bernice Mason presented her annual holiday program, "Holiday Treasures"
on Thursday, December 4th at 7:00 pm. The program was attended by 18
guests.
The Board unanimously agreed to close the library for the following holiday
dates:
December 24 - close at Noon; December 25 & 26 - Closed; December 31 -
close at 2:00 pm; January 1 & 2 - Closed.
Time to address the Board
No one addressed the board.
Next regular meeting
February 10, 2009 will be the next meeting.
