Box 10 Laurel, Montana 59044 Dear Marvin: In clearing up my files, I was embarrassed to find your letter of inquiry regarding possible state assistance with an incineration project similar to the facility which we viewed together in Livingston. I had anticipated seeing you and/or Mayor.Ehrlick at the League of Cities Convention in West Yellowstone and I was carrying a memorandum which responded to your letter. Today I uncovered that memo and on the chance that it may still have some relevance-for you, I have en- closed it with this letter. Perhaps we will meet in Helena during the next legislative session in connection with supporting legislation which would sustain the program that has benefitted Livingston and Park County. Best wishes for the holidays. Sincere , Enclosure Memorandum To: Lt. Governor ' Fr: Mike Shields Re: City of Laurel Solid waste incinerator September 8, 1982 I contacted John Bartlett and Duane Robertson (2821) Chief of the Solid Waste Management Bureau concerning the Laurel request. The program which funded a portion of the Livingston project was appropriated $300,000 from the alternative energy program under the coal tax allocation account. -Livingston received $215,000. Pre-applications for research and design have been received from Billings and Missoula. Applications are processed on a first come first service basis until the funds are used. The Department of Health intends to request the. Legislature to continue the project, using Livingston as an example. I suggest that you recommend to Mayor Ehrlick that he or his Committee contact: Duane Robertson Solid Waste Management Bureau Dept. of Health and Environmental Sciences 449-2821 Van Jamison Department of Natural Resources and Conservation 449-3712 r I will send a cover letter to each of the Departments requesting them to respond to Mr. Carter's letter.
