MINUTES OF FIRE COMMITTEE
June 13, 1988 7:00 PM- Fire Hall
Members Present:

Report was made by 1st. Asst. Chief, Earl Linger, on a letter
from James Kraft, Rural Fire Administrator (letter attached).
Items of the letter were discussed and reviewed.
Committee reviewed the taxable valuation for 3 hours to de-
termine rates. The committee did not have an actual count of struc-
tures in the fire service area. Count could be 200-300, and rates
can only be charged on structures and not land.
(1) Committee's recommendation is to charge flat rate of
$30,000 yearly and a 5 year contract with annual reviews.
(2) Rate structure to be charged to property owners and
should be done by the County Commissionor, or the
Board of Trustees of the fire service area.
(3) Services to be offered are the same as that of the fire
districts.
(1) City of Laurel is of lst prioity. Response to
calls of districts or fire service area are then
on 1st call in bases'. Types of fire, man power
and equipment in account.
(2) Services will be of fire service only, not lst
responder or code enforcement. Vehicles respond-
ing to fire service area will be: 1 pumper, 1
tender, 1 personnel carrier. Access to 30 man
force with back up of: 1 pumper, 2 brush attack
trucks.

(3) With a contract price of $ 30,000 and a S year
contract with the fire department, and could
possibly obtain a Tender/Pumper -- 4 x 4 truck
which would enable them to get a good knock
down on most fires on an initial attack. With
the back up of a pumper, tender, and a personnel

be used by yourself and the Laurel Fire Committee
Fire Marshal to determine rates to be charged property owners

:ce is set for 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 22, 1988, at
rD,,, C7Lr the Laurel High School Auditorium. At that public
hearing we should be prepared to discuss: 1) The
level of service that will be offered to residents;
2) The rates to be charged the property owners or
at least a range of rates; 3) The contract (budget)
amount for fire protection services from the Laurel
Volunteer Fire Department. With this information,
the property owners will know whether they want to
protest during the 60 days after the public hearing.
