A QUORUM (3 or MORE) PRESENT, THE FOLLOWING ACTION WAS TAKEN
BY THE COMMITTEE:
Motion by Bob Graham to have Joe Bradley draw up
a ordinance to be presented at the next council meeting.
The ordinance is to require contractors coming into
Laurel and applying for city business licenses to be
required to show proof of liability insurance and be
bonded before recieving their license.
Motion Passed
L.D. Collins asked that under the direction of the
committee, Jim Worthington have two colors for
the building permits. One being bright red and the
other being bright green. The one color would be. issued
to private contractor doing work on private homes,and
the other being given to people doing work on their own
homes. This would flag to the police that the contractor
should have proof of a business license.
Jim Worthington brought up the issue of the council
passing Ordinance 982 and 983-Amended in February of
1991 establishing an office for a Fire/Building In-
spector. It is required by the State for our city to
have every city business to have a annual inspection.
Licenses are still being issued and the position of
Inspector has not been budgeted for.in the 1991-1992
fiscal year. The committee feels the council should
address this problem, if not for this year, to be
prepared for the position next year.
Discussion for having a one to three day business
license for businesses that come into the city for
a temporary time. It was decided more time and
discussion. should be had to elimate possible problems.
