ORDINANCE NO. 575
BEING AN ORDINANCE FINDING THAT IT IS NECESSARY FOR THE HEALTH
AND SAFETY OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE CITY THAT ELECTRICAL
STANDARDS BE ADOPTED; THAT THE OFFICE OF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR
BE SET UP; THAT FEES FOR THE ELECTRICAL. INSPECTOR BE ADOPTED;
THAT AN ADVISORY ELECTRICAL BOARD BE SET UP; REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES OR PORTIONS THEREOF IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; ANDFIND-
ING THAT AN EMERGENCY DOES EXIST, REQUIRING THE IMMEDIATE
ADOPTION OF THIS ORDINANCE.
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Laurel, in regular
session, does find that the health and safety and well--being of the iinhabitants of
the City of Laurel does require that electrical standards be adopted and that
that inspection of the electrical work done within the limits of the City of
Laurel is necessary.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF LAUREL:
Section 1 . That from and after the effective date of this
ordinance, all construction, repair and maintenance of all electrical lines
and connections within the City of Laurel shall be done in conformance with
the rules and regulations on file in the office of the City Engineer of the City
of Laurel; such rules and regulations being incorporated into this ordinance
by reference and hereof made a part.
Section 2. That there is herewith created in the City of
Laurel an Electrical Advisory Board which shall consist of seven (7) mem-
bers who shall serve without compensation and who shall be appointed by the
Mayor, with approval of the City Council, and who shall from time to time
make recommendations to the City Council as to any necessary changes
or additions to the electrical rules and regulations herein adopted. Nothing
herein shall prevent the same members serving on the Electrical Advisory
Board from sitting on the Plumbing Advisory Board.
Section 3. (a). That there is herewith created in the
City of Laurel the office of Electrical Inspector, whose duties shall be to
inspect all new electrical wiring installation, remodeling of wiring and

electrical facilities in existing buildings, or major repairs thereto. That
no new buildings, remodeled or repaired buildings shall be serviced with
electrical facilities until the same shall have passed inspection by the said
Electrical Inspector.
(b). That the Electrical Inspector shall be appointed
by the Mayor, with the approval of the City Council.
(c). That the said Electrical Inspector shall be
under the general supervision and control of the City Engineer of the City
of Laurel and that application for said inspection shall be made at the City
Engineer's office. That at the time of application for said inspection, the
applicant shall pay to the City of Laurel the sum of $? which shall
cover the cost of making said inspection.
(d). That the said Electrical Inspector shall be paid
the sum of $ for making each inspection required to be made here-
under and said fees shall be payable out of the funds collected under the terms
of this ordinance.
(e). Nothing herein shall prohibit the Electrical
Inspector from holding the office of Plumbing Inspector.
Section 4. That all ordinances or parts thereof in conflict
herewith are herewith repealed.
Section 5. The City Council does herewith find that an emer-
gency situation does exist and the health and safety of the inhabitants of the
City of Laurel requires that this ordinance be in full force and effect immediate-
ly upon its passage.
