ORDINANCE NO. 563
BEING AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER XIII OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LAUREL OF 19611 BY THE ADDITION
THERETO OF CONTROL OF RECKLESS DRIVING WITHIN THE CITY OF
LAUREL AND REQUIRING THE STOPPING OF MOTORISTS UPON THE
APPROACH OF A POLICE VEHICLE.
j, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LAUREL, MONTANA:
Section I. That Chapter XIII of the Revised Ordinances of
the City of Laurel of 1961 is hereby amended by the addition thereto of two (2)
additional sub-sections, to-wit: (67) and (68), and all remaining portions of
said chapter to remain in full force and effect.
Section 2. Sub-section 67 provides as follows:
(67) Any person driving any motor vehicle on any street
or highway within the City of Laurel, upon hearing a police siren, or upon
seeing any flashing red emergency light mounted on any police vehicle
shall immediately pull over to the right-hand side of the street or high-
way and stop at the closest and safest point and wait until the police vehicle
which is sounding its siren or flashing its red light shall pass by, or if the
police vehicle was attempting to overtake the stopped vehicle, the same
shall wait upon instructions from the police officer.
Section 3. Sub-section 68 provides as follows:
(68) No person shall operate any motor vehicle upon
any street or highway within the corporate limits of the City of Laurel in a
reckless manner; reckless being defined as, "A willful and wanton disregard
for the safety of persons and property within the corporate limits of the city. "
Section 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
thirty (30) days after the passage of the same.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Laurel and approved
by the Mayor this 4th day of February, 1964.
