A quorum (3 or more) present, the following action was taken by
the Committee:
A bid has been received from Bob Frank in the amount
of $75.00 to empty 8 porta potties :at the dance site (corner
of 5th Avenue and Main Street) during the early morning hours
of July 4th. The porta potties will be moved from the dance
site (after they have been emptied) by a crew from the Laurel
Volunteer Fire Department and the Laurel Jaycees.
The deadline for requesting a booth in Thomson Park for
July 4th is May 4th. Requests have been received so far from
Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and auxiliary, Laurel Jaycees,
Laurel Chamber of Commerce, Laurel Democratic Club, Christmas
to Remember, Inc., Laurel Kiwanis/Key Clubs, and Eugene Sara
Detachment Marine Corp League.
It is recommended that there should be no parking allowed
on either side of the street on First Avenue from 6th Street
to 8th Street and on the east side of First Avenue from 8th
Street to 9th Street. It had been earlier recommended to close
8th Street from /st Avenue to the alley east of. the High School.
A parking committee consisting of Ken Olson, Fred Feuerbacher,
Mike Atkinson, Chuck Rodgers and Bryan Fischer, will determine
loading zones needed on 8th Street and 6th Street in an effort
to keep as much traffic out of the park as possible.
The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Kids' Day in the
park from 2-4 pm featuring three-legged races, etc..
The need for garbage cans was discussed and the committee
suggests the bathroom caretaker, Herb Mohs, be hired to take
care of the restrooms (replace toilet tissue & generally watch
for vandalism) during the late afternoon hours until dark.

The parade route will be the same as last year. It will
start at Alder Avenue and go west on Main Street to First Avenue,
turn north on First Avenue to 7th Street, west on 7th Street
to Third Avenue, north on 3rd Avenue to 9th Street, and east
on 9th to the High School parking lot.
A promotion committee will be appointed to advertise the
4th of July celebration. Marvin Carter will represent the
LVFD on the committee, with other representatives being asked
to serve on it also.
Groups that have asked to have a booth in Thomson Park
prior to the deadline May 4th are:
Cindy Chapple, Girls Softball team; St. Anthony's Altar
Society, Cindy Fleming, Rep.; Evergreen Rebekah Lodge; Dave
Larned, Jr., Lions Club; and the Laurel Herbstfest.
