The Laurel Fourth o~ July Celebration will be ~or twc~ days,
July 3 a~,O 4. The registraciom deadline .~or sponsorir~g a
booth er ac~Eivity in Thomson Park for' the Fourth of July
~ill be June 1. There wi].l be no exceptions.
Norm moved, Bc)b Graham seconded that we allow the Midnight
F].yers, a count;'y western band~ t~.s pi. ay in Thomsen Park
Yrom appro.aimately I p.m. to 4 p.m. Four car spaces w:~.il be
reser've~ 'f'o~' the truck for the band on Sixth St.
carriec:~. The band will also be in the parade and is being
sponso?ed by the Caboose Sal~on, Terry Pink~ c. wn~r.
It has been suggested that the Kiddies Parade be held at
il}:30 a.m.
The mai~', parade will be at 11 a.m. with the barbecue will
be ~rc)m i2 moon L(rl'ill 4 p.m. in Thomson F'ark near' the
si-~.].te~. The Fire Department has reserved the ehelter ¢or'
ti~at: c~a¥. An American Legion baseball tournament will be
heici do.'-ing the day.
Om the 3rd, 'khe Jaycees will agaiF~ sponsor the Street
~.~ce. For'~a pot{~es ~.,ili be moved ~rom the dance ~rea op
to T~omson Park. Bob Frank will be notified a~pout emptying
the por~a po~s befere ~hey are moved. Bleach w~I1 be adWed
'..:) ~:.h.:~) ~c)t':::~es a~t~r' they are situated in Thomson F'ark (in
~:~.e same area as last year).
Yhe P~arsne Corps Lesgue has offered to be 6~ color guard for
Li-,~ par'~de. That ~n.~orma'~iOl~ will be passed on to t. he
C~amber o~ C~mmerce which is the s~onso~-ing ~rou. p for the
S~-~gg~sted for this year is a Happy Hoer from 6 to 8 p.m. at
t~e E;treet Dance area. Also needed this year is a teen
even~ t~at w~ll be heZd during the same time as the e~.reet
dance. The Kiwanis Club will be contacted to eponsor such
G'~aham sug~)e~ted permission would be needed to temporarily
c. is~:~ss (dul°:~ng the parade) the ordinance requirin_o that
animal dro~p~ng be picked u~.
Identi.fy:~.ng buttons will be ma~e for' members of the
committee ~o they are readily rec~:~q~ni~.ab~a in case of
problems. Keith Thompson will take care of Lhat.
Ken Olson told oE the ~,eed ~)E tha~ town's suppor'{ c~'E the
~:ir'emen will put. up a ~en~:. in the park on the 3r~:~ and will
I]eed a -~r'eezer truck and the C(:~ke trailer iii '~.hK~ park.
Again the number o7 vehicles in the park must be i.::ept at a
vehicle in 'Lhe park mill be required ~o remc~ve
An idea far' next y'ear is a Chili Contest to be he-)Id on the
Third of July. Keith Thc, tape, on will be responsible .for that.
The next meeting o'f the gjroup will be May 7 at. 7 i:)..m, and
then May 28 just prior ~_o th,= registration deadli!":e time.
All meetings will be at 7 p.m. and in c:ounci] c:l-,at~bers.
