A proposal has been received from Z97 KZLS for a
"Street Dance" to be held during the hours following the
baseball tournament and the beginning of the fireworks. The
police department would like to have the dance held in the
fenced Little League field. That would make it simpler for
security purposes in that area. There will be no selling of
alcohol in the park.
The open container law will be enforced during the
F~urth of July and violators will be ticketed. Drinking on
the floats will also be prohibited and will be stated in
the informational material that goes with each entry.
Streets to be closed include Eighth St. from First Ave.
to Penn. Ave. &nd First St. from Second Ave to the alley
near city hall. No parking will be allowed on First Ave.
from Sixth St.(on both sides of the road) to Eighth St. and
on the east side of the road from Eighth St. to Ninth St.
This zs to allow better protection for pedestrians.
We are enforcing the rule that limits vehicles in the
parks. /~ne fire deparment and the Little League/American
Legion baseball team will need some vehicles on occasion
during the day, but all other vehicles will be asked to
move out immediately.
Committee members will wear buttons that say "Need
Info? Ask Me".
The parade theme will be Discover America SOOth
Birthday! The parade will begin at lla.m. The parade route
will be the same as last year--start at Alder Ave. west on
Main St. to First Ave., up First Ave. to 6th St., west on
Sixth St. to Third Ave., north on Third to Ninth St. and
east on Ninth to the high school parking lot where the
parade will disband. The police department requested a list
of the judges' names. The Kiddies Parade will .be at 10:30
a.m. and will begin at the First Security Bank parking lot,
south of Montana to Main St. west on Main to First Ave. and
north to the north parking lot at Ricci's.
A request by the Jaycees to have a Happy Hour prior to
the Street Dance was discussed again, but a check of last
meeting's minutes discloses the Happy Hour was disallowed
due to the lack of police personnel to provide adequate
security.
The LVFD barbecue will be held following the parade in
Thomson Park until food supplies run out about 4 p.m. The
barbecue will include homemade potato salad, beans, BBQ
sandwich, pickle for $3.75 per plate. The LVFD Auxiliary
will have the Coke trailer open from 11 a.m. to the time
the fireworks start and will serve coke, carmeled apples
and iced tea.
The Jaycee pancake breakfast will be held in Fireman's
Park on Main'St. from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Ham and pancakes
will be served. The 3aycees have not determined a price as
yet.
