Hulse, CEO VIA Electronic Mail Date: September 12, 2008 Re: Expansion of the MMIA Board of Directors Please be advised that the MMIA Boarci of Director; will expand its membership by two Board members at the annual meeting to be held Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 4:15 pm at the Hilton Garden Inn in Missoula. This meeting is scheduled to take place in conjunction with the Montana League of Cities and Towns Conference. Pursuant to the MMIA Interlocal Agreement and Bylaws: At such time as the population of a Member participating in one or more of the Authority's Programs exceeds 20, 000, that member shall be granted representation on the Board. The Director filling that seat shall be appointed by that entity. At the time of the addition of seat on the Board for entities whose population exceeds 20,000, the body of Directors representing members whose population is less than 20,000 shall expand by the same number through election as set forth above. The expansion in the number of Directors shall occur at the next annual meeting of the Member Entities following the annual census that established said population. It has been determined that the annual census estimations published July 1, 2008 establishes the City of Kalispell's population in excess of 20,000. Therefore, the City of Kalispell will be granted representation on the MMIA Board of Directors as an appointed Board seat. This expands the number of appointed Directors representing communities with 20,000 or greater population from 6 to 7. At the same time the Board will expand the number of elected Directors representing communities under 20,000 population from 6 to 7. At the 2008 MMIA Annual meeting, an election will be held far four seats representing members with a population under 20,000. In addition, the term of the At-Large seat will expire at the 2008 Annual meeting and will be selected by the Board upon seating of the fourteen members. Individuals who are interested in standing for election to the MMIA Board and are an elected or appointed official of a member with a population less than 20,000 may place their name in nomination. This can be done by submitting a letter to the MMIA CEO ar by having their name placed in nomination verbally at the 2008 Annual Meeting. The Board meets eight to ten times per year to direct the operations of your risk retention organization. Meetings are generally held on Fridays in Helena. The MMIA Board of Directors is a dynamic organization charged with directing the activities of a statewide interlocal agency that provides essential risk retention and management services to Montana cities and towns. Board members participating in meetings or training are reimbursed for lodging and receive per diem and mileage payments.
