The Fourth of July falls this year on a Friday; the commitee
agreed the celebration should be for Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July
4. Several class reunions are being held in Laurel that week end and the
committee felt the two day celebration was adequate.
The street dance will be July 3 from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on
Second Ave. from the alley between Main St. to First St West. Music
will be by Cimmaron. The group needs to apply for a beer license and
provide proof of insurance which they will do at a later date.
The pancake breakfast will be held in Fireman's Park from
6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday. the Cost will be $4.50 for adults;S3.00 for
children 6 to 12 and under 6 years of age, free.
The Kiddies parade will be at 10 a.m. on Friday and will
begin at the First Security Bank parking lot, go on Colorado to Main St.,
west on Main to First Ave. and north on First Ave. to Ricci's parking lot.
The Grand parade will be at 11 a.m.; the route is still being
discussed with no decision being made at thi.~ time. The theme has been
selected but because it is a contest situation will be announced at a later
date.
The barbeque will be after the parade approximately 12
noon. A committee meeting has not been held as yet; more details will be
provided later.
Afternoon entertainment will be a task for the entire
committee. Some suggestions were: Art in the Park, Lisa Fox (Mike

Nardella will contact Lisa); Parachutists; Balloons from radio stations,
etc., Mike Zuhowski will check on that).
A request for the number of garbage cans and barricades
needed for each event during the two days will be requested by each
group and presented to Jim. Portable latrines will be provided by the
Jaycees for the dance and the pancake breakfast. The city will study
providing latrines in the Thomson Park.
Keeping vehicles in the park to a minimum was stressed and
the groups were encouraged to use the new roadway provided from the
East Eighth St. entrance to the park. In some instances it may be best to
cross the grass entering from East Sixth St.; but those instances should
be few. Parking spaces on E. Sixth St. will be reserved for vehicles from
the LVFD. Discussion was held on commercial vendors selling near the
park. The area inside Thomson Park is reserved for non-profit
organizations.
The commitee will meet again on Monday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
in council chambers.
Participating groups in the past have been
The Laurel Jaycees; the Laurel Chamber of
Commerce; Laurel Volunteer Fire Department; Laurel Baseball
Organizations: The Christmas to Remember; The Evergreen Rebekah
Lodge; Laurel Arts and Crafts Guild; Pioneer Kiwanis Club, Girls
Softball team, (Cindy Chapple).
Needed discussion: A deadline for applying for a space in the
park will need to be established and some action will be taken concerning
business licenses for commercial vendors.
Respectfully submitted,

Dear Ms. K~atrick,
This letter is to properly inform you as to our intent of disposal of the dectrical pole and property
~ on Thompson Park which has been under the control of the Laurel Herbstfest. We could
pull it down, but that would benefit no one. The beat idea we've had is to relinquish ownership to
the City of Laurel, so you could use it for any events you might choose, ffyou and your committee
feel this could be of some benefit to the city, please respond in a favorable manner. If not, notify us
so we may have it dismantled.
If you so el~ose to accept our gift to the city, please accept this letter as the formal instrument to
pass over ownership.
