R18-Ol A RESOLUTION AWARDING THE BID AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH MONTANA PETERBILT FOR THE PURCHASE OF A GARBAGE TRUCK FOR THE CITY OF LAUREL'S PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. WHEREAS, the City of Laurel needs a new garbage truck for its Public Works Department; and WHEREAS, the City of Laurel complied with its procurement policy and Montana Law by utilizing a competitive bid process to ensure the garbage truck purchased is in the best interest of the City in both quality and price; and WHEREAS, Montana Peterbilt was the lowest qualified bidder; and WHEREAS, the lowest bid was for$279,684.00. Refuse Truck Purchase Recommendation I wanted to inform you that due to the winter road conditions that the inspection and demonstration of the Bridgeport refuse truck did not take place. Matt and Kevin had to turn around about an hour after they left Laurel due to the snow and road conditions. It is typical to have a demonstration of refuse trucks prior to the City going out for bids. The City had demonstrated a Wayne Curbtender prior to ever purchasing one eight years ago. The City also demonstrated a Heil refuse truck last year prior to going out for bids and the demonstration ended with the truck breaking down. The Bridgeport refuse truck wasn't demonstrated prior to going to bid as no sale representative had contacted the City to arrange a demonstration of their system. In order to understand how the Bridgeport refuse trucks work, City staff had to view the system on Youtube. I suggested to try and attempt the demonstration of a Bridgeport refuse truck after bids closed in order to evaluate its operation and unfortunately it didn't work out due to the weather. Matt and I have discussed the purchase of the new refuse truck and feel that it would be in the best interest of the City to purchase the Wayne Curbtender refuse body with the Peterbilt truck chassis from Montana Peterbilt for$279,684.00 which is the lowest bid for the Wayne Curbtender refuse body.
