HomeMy WebLinkAboutTree Board Minutes 12.14.2017 Laurel Tree Board December 14, 2017 City Hall Attending: Pat Hart,Sue Carter, LuAnne Engh,Aaron Christensen, Dale Ahrens, Pastor Walter Widdis, Kurt Markegard, Mayor Mark Mace Riverside Tree Removal: It's happening today. 3 cottonwoods removed and stumps ground $4K Billings Tree Service Lion's Club: Kurt tried to meet with the Lion's club to secure a letter of matching funds from Lions International for the ADA dock under the DOJ application. No letter at this point. Grants: • Kurt indicated the $750 DNRC grant is due by 12/31 and they haven't released the paperwork or online registration. He is following this • Walmart Grant— Due 2/1/18—It might be best to use the school district for this money so we don't miss out if the city doesn't qualify as a non-profit. Dale is following up. • DNRC-$10K due 9/15/18—we should apply for this urban tree grant • NWEnergy-$500—we received this in November • King's Ace Hardware—Kurt will working on their grant Donations: • LuAnne will send the donation letters to previous donors Jan. 1 • Pat Kimmet-CHS offered funds/limited man hours (turn around)to help with the park South Pond Layout: Aaron presented a 4 year plan for trees at South Pond. A total of 51 trees. He presented a spreadsheet of the trees and value, 8 pages of aerial placement of trees. Thank you Aaron for all your expertise! • 2018—4 Honey Locust,Amur Maple, 3 Golden Willow, Green Mountain Sugar Maple • 2019—3 Autumn Blaze Maple, 3 Hackberry • 2020—7 Thornless Hawthorn, 1 Helena Maple, 1 Norway Maple • 2021—21 Aspen, 4 Siouxland Poplar, 2 Lanceleaf Cottonwood All trees are mapped out for placement. This isn't set in stone as availability of donations will make a difference. Aaron will contact suppliers and other nurseries to see what can be donated before we purchase. Each year we would concentrate on a different part of the park. • 2018—shoreline • 2019—East Park • 2020- West park • 2021—remaining shoreline Sue Carter suggested we add the existing tree inventoryJcondition with this plan. This would need ta be done before Arbor Qay. Staff could then trim and remove brush and trees. lago/Design: Aaron said Dynamic Designs wili work on our lago after the holidays. What we have is a little too dark and large—needs fine tuning but can sti{f be used far fundraising letters. We can do an online fundraiser for the kids' shirts and make a smali prafit-$2Jitem.
