Mayor Mace is appointing her to the Board at the regular City Council meeting tonight. The Summer Reading Program was a very big success again this year! We had 102 registered participants that spent 88,722 minutes reading(OR 1,478 hours 42 minutes OR 61 days, 14 hours, 42 minutes). The weekly programs averaged an attendance of 22 people per week. The per capita funding for libraries will not be available this year due to budget cuts at the State level. It is most likely not going to be available next year either. This is a loss of$2,600 for Laurel. The State Library is allowing a one-time allotment to public libraries to help off-set the loss of per capita funding. All libraries in the Federation will receive $1,405.19 this year to be used for programs for which we would have used the per capita funding. There is a stipulation that we can't use the monies for new programming, etc at our libraries. The issue of soggy newspapers has been taken care of for now. The Billings Gazette will ask its carrier to put the paper in a plastic bag when it delivers to the library. New Business Fall workshops offered by Montana Library Association will be offered in Bozeman, September 7th& 8th. Workshops include learning to use GIS information from the State Library, social media for strengthening our library's web presence, conversations with staff and board members, and learning to work closely with our local governments.Nancy is planning on attending and will report back at the next meeting. The next South-Central Federation meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Hardin at Big Horn Public Library. If anyone is interested in attending please let Nancy know for travel purposes. The library will be closed for the long Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 2-4, 2017. In the"old"days this would have been a changeover weekend so we will continue with the tradition to give staff an extra day off during that weekend. Other Patti and Nancy will be taking some time off during the week of Labor Day.Nancy will be available via email or cell phone if needed. There is a tentative Federation Coordinator's meeting scheduled in October as well as retreat to Chico. More information will be presented at the September meeting.
