The meeting was called to order at 5:07pm and there was no public input presented.
The commission agreed that they were not interested in making an allowance to the Policy and
Procedures of the Laurel Cemetery without making a change in the Policy and Procedures to reflect the
same. Documentation was brought forward to the Commission from the National Cemetery
Administration in regard to eligibility for burial in a National Veteran Cemetery and the Commission was
unanimous in the wish that our Veterans section in the Laurel Cemetery reflect those same conditions of
eligibility.The motion was made by Ken Olsen and seconded by Wallace Hall to send to the City Council
a one-time exception for the burial of a military member's spouse prior to the military member's burial.
The request was brought by Dave Gauslow.
The Commission also further recommended that the Mayor with the city attorney bring forward new
language for section 5-C of the Cemetery Policy and Procedures for City Council consideration to make
this change Permanent.
The Cemetery Commission Chair was asked to send the proposed exception to the current policy and
the proposed policy change to the mayor so that these may be brought to the council for consideration
at a future date.
Chuck and Kurt discussed a Brochure for the Laurel Cemetery and they agreed to work on this and to try
and have something prepared prior to this up-coming Memorial Day.
The other agenda items for which there were no time to bring forward to the discussion were agreed to
be moved to the agenda for the next scheduled Cemetery Commission meeting of 6/14/2016.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:04pm.
