HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 07.11.2017 Minutes of the Laurel Public Library Board of Trustees July 11, 2017 Attending Clair Killebrew Dixie Feller Bill Hanson Arthur Vogele Nancy Schmidt Officer Elections Clair nominated Arthur for Board Chair, Dixie seconded the nomination. Motion passed. Dixie nominated Bill for position of Board Vice-Chair, Clair seconded the nomination,motion passed. Minutes Bill motioned that the minutes for June 2017 be accepted as read. Clair seconded the motion. Motion passed. Correspondence The Library Book Club members made a monetary donation in memory of Jeanne Stabelfeldt. They asked that the monies be used to purchase a new book kit for the library. Circulation Report—compared to same time period last year... Traffic: down 4.71%; circulation: all items circulated totaled 4,165 (including 420 eBooks), book circulation was up 10.02%,media circulation was down 10.55%,eBook checkouts for this month was 11.57%of total book circulation,we circulated 555 items to partners; computers: internet use was down 5%, children's use was even, wi-fi use down 25.4%;patron cards: city patrons hold 62.6%of registered cards, county patrons make up 32.9%of registered cards and out-of-county patrons are 4.5%. There were 34 tech assists in June. Old Business Nancy has reported that the annual per capita monies will not be available this year from the State Library. There is a possibility that a one-time supplement may be sent in place to help libraries pay for databases or programming at the library. She will report on this at the next meeting. The Federation Coordinator's meeting and State Library Commissioner's meeting were held in Helena in June.Nancy attended the Coordinator's meeting on the afternoon of the 13th but developed a reaction to the tetanus booster she has been given and came home on the 14th without attending the Commissioner's meeting. She will contact Tracy Cook at the State Library to see if there is any new information to share next month. Our Summer Reading Program is off to a great start! We had 83 attendees at our weekly activities last month. We are planning on having the Zoo bring some of their critters toward the end of July. New Business The flower boxes have been planted by some of the members of Boy Scout Troop 400. Codell McNiven chose the library planters/grounds as part of his Eagle Scout project. The planters were completed on June 17th. Rose Marie Kline decided to say no to another term on the Library Board. Dixie and Arthur has recommended a friend as a replacement. If there are any other suggestions,please have them send a letter of interest to Nancy at the library(or Mayor Mace at City Hall). If no suggestions are received,the library will post the Board opening on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, or website. Other Bill expressed concern that the Billings Gazette was soaking wet every morning when we opened.Nancy related that the sprinklers are running almost every morning and the delivery person wasn't putting the paper where it wouldn't get wet. Bill asked if the Gazette offices could be contacted about the wet papers to see if they could encourage the delivery person to at least put them in plastic bags.Nancy stated that she will do this tomorrow. Addressing the Board None Next regular meeting August 8, 2017 Bill motioned the Board meeting be adjourned, Clair seconded the motion.Motion passed, meeting adjourned at 6:46 pm.
