Circulatian Report
Traffic for March 2008 was 1,927 up 7% from March 2007. Circulation for materials
was 3,740 up 13% from March 2007. Circulation of books alone was up 11% over last
March.
Old Business
The South Central Federation meeting in Big Timber was attended by Clair Killebrew
and Nancy Schmidt. The main topics of discussion at the Federation meeting were
purchase of Book Club Bags, Ask-A-Librarian, and Proquest or Ancestry.cam
databases. The monies usually sent as reimbursement for Interlibrary Loans will be
diverted at the Federation level to pay for one of the genealogy databases with member
approval. Ask-A-Librarian is a new online feature that the state takes part in to help
students or the general public find answers to research questions that our local library
may not be able to answer or available to answer.
Our date for going live was changed from April 14th to May 5th. Staff had requested the
later date so that we could schedule more training on our new system.
Repairs on the roof were completed by Leonard Christensen by April 10th
The resurface of the library parking lot has not had any progress. Nancy is still waiting
for information from Engineering, Inc. with their estimate.
Copies of by-laws have been sent from 6 other libraries in different areas of the state.
Thank you notes will be sent.
New Business
Staff had requested a later date for going live so that we could schedule more training
on our new system.
The two chairs and ottoman that have recently taken up residence at the library were
purchased by the Friends of the Laurel Public Library.
The Laurel Library Trust has not been active and we still have over 100 Laurel History
books being stored at the library. Extra copies will be taken to the book store and the
Laurel Chamber of Commerce so that we can get some sold before the Laurel
Centennial.
Bruce posed a question about previewing the preliminary budget for the next fiscal year.
We will go over each item so that Nancy may answer any questions that may arise about
the next fiscal budget.
Nancy had stated concerns about how well the cleaners are doing their job. There have
been complaints from patrons, staff, and board members that the restrooms do not smell
very clean. It was suggested that Nancy schedule a meeting with the cleaners to review
their cleaning schedule and checklist and possibly suggest that they work on Fridays so
that they can be supervised.
Clair brought up a concern about staff evaluations and a possible pay raise in the future.
It is unclear when an evaluation should be done and when staff is eligible for an
increase in pay. The question that is most unclear is whether or not staff has to wait for
the full one year probationary period to pass before getting an increase in pay or if they
are eligible before the end of the probationary period.
