HomeMy WebLinkAboutChamber of Commerce (12)Laurel Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting Minutes April 24, 2008 -OWL Diner "Buildin abetter communit and economic rowth throw h communication and business relations" Meeting was held on April 24th, at DJ's Steak Palace. In attendance were: President Jared Kaiser, Co-Vice Presidents Becky Dickerson and Gary Hodde, and Exec. Secretary Joanne Flynn; Directors: Dean Rankin, Linda Frickle, Lumpy, and Members, Nancy Metzgar, Bab O'Dea, Aletta, RaeEllen, Cole Harden (new contact for the Crossings) and Claudia (volunteer) . Jared called the meeting to order and held a moment of silence. The minutes were presented for approval. Lumpy made a motion to approve, seconded by Linda. All approved. Joanne gave the current bank account balances. Linda made a motion to approve seconded. by Bob, all approved. Joanne reported that federal and state taxes are also due and included the amounts to the agenda. Jared asked for approval of the bills, Lumpy made a motion to pay the bills as stated, seconded by Linda. All approved. Old Business Super Host -Joanne stated the response has been positive. Dean also commented on the many benefits such a program would have. Joanne said she sent out the information to members this morning asking for their feedback and interest in sponsoring. N w B m m er -Joanne reported that Lynn George called this morning and needs to resign her position due to her position now requiring more travel. Nancy Metzgar and Don Smarsh have been nominated to take the place of Barb and Lynn. After discussion, Linda made a motion to approve both nominees, seconded by Gary. All agreed L~u~reJ~rochure- Gone to print! Final proof should be available end of this week and then about 10 days for the printing to be completed. Joanne showed the board one of the brochure holders which will be distributed to the members along with the brochures. J I 4~' Committee: Aleta volunteered to join the committee. • Para Route will be changed, expanding the route to go 1 block further to Penn. Ave. & all the way up to Maryland and continue to the new Middle School. • Chief ]ose~h RUN -Sponsorship letters have gone out to sponsors. Bibs are all pinned. Joanne has sent the letter of permission to the city with copies going to the Firemen and Police Dept. • Craft Fair -going well Membership Drive -no new members to report, but we have several potential new members. Farmers Market - we have received an OK from the Park Board and the Firemen with some stipulations all of which we can live with. Ne or in Pro ram -Linda, Nancy, and Becky all reported, how well the meeting went. We had 5 new members this time, bringing the total members to 14 -- Chris Duffy, Yellow Book -Dave Allan, Western States Ins. John Bataisz, Ace Hardware and Jerry Bauck, Rock Creek Books. Diane asked if anyone would step up and take over as narrator and Angie Wheeler volunteered to do so. Joanne read the suggested bylaws for the Group and ask to have these accepted by the board, Linda made a motion to approve, seconded by Becky. Joanne also ask the board to consider ordering tri-carboned referral forms from the Outlook which will be used at these meetings. The cost is $64.p0 far 250 sheets. Lumpy made a motion to approve seconded by Aleta. Centennial Committee Update -Chamber has agreed to sell Lager on the 5th for the All Class Reunion. So far, Jared, Lumpy, Aletta, Becky, Joanne have all volunteered to serve. Joanne suggested that the volunteers get together and figure out the details and get back to the board with a proposal. Joanne sent in the order to Don for promotional items. Busines_s_After Nours -Joanne asked if anyone was interested in having the next event. No one at this time Main Street Magazine -Joanne said that everything has been submitted to the Magazine no proof has come back yet. Main Street, Pro4ram discussion included calling other towns who have participated and see what input we can get from them on the results and who sponsored it. Joanne suggested that we co-sponsor with the city and also stated that Milt was going to do a follow-up on the application and directions for the app. New Business New Board Members- Joanne reported that Lynn George called this morning and needs to resign her position due to her position now requiring more travel. Anti-Virus for Computers -Joanne said that her computer's protection will run out on the 18th of May and we have none for the new computer. Bob said we need it so just order it and Lumpy seconded. All agreed. Qpgn Forum Beautification Day -May 3 and 4 Next Meeting -Becky had suggested to Joanne that it may be beneficial to move the next meeting to the week after Joanne returns from vacation. After discussion, bob made a motion to move the meeting to May 15th seconded by Aleta. Other notes -Joanne mentioned that Guadalajara is opening soon at the Locomotive. Harely O'Donnell has a new book out that Joanne showed to the board and will have available at the Chamber.
