HomeMy WebLinkAboutEmergency Services Committee Minutes 07.24.2017 Emermency Services Committee Meeting 7/24/2017 I Members Present: Doug Poehis,Tom Nelson,Clete Knaub i Others Present: Rick Musson, Brent Peters I The meeting began at 5:38pm and there were not enough members present for a quorum so there were no decisions made. The committee was given an update by Fire Chief Peters on the Yellowstone County ambulance issue. Chief Peters stated that the County would like to have a County wide ambulance service operational by January of 2019.The County Commissioners are working on the County wide safety levy. The County has been having trouble trying to get RFQ's from service providers as they do not want to divulge certain details that they consider intellectual property that they do not want their competitors to see.The Chief has been looking into the possibility of forming a fire district but needs to find out if there would be any implications with belonging to a fire district once the City of Laurel becomes a Class 2 City. The Chief wondered if the citizens of laurel would support a levy for a county wide ambulance service.Tom stated that there has been no City County meeting for several years now and that he thought those meeting need to be held to discuss some of these important matters that involve both entities. Doug asked Chief Peters to discuss how we paid for the two vehicles we received this year. The Chief stated that both vehicles came out of his budget. The Rescue 5 vehicle was acquired for the cost of shipping which was$4,500.00.The vehicle new would cost$500.000.00.The Aerial Ladder Truck was acquired for the cost of shipping as well which was$6,900.00.This vehicle new would cost 1,200,000.00. The Chief also stated that they found equipment stored in the truck which was found to be in nearly new condition and valued at close to$7,000.00.This would pay for the cost of shipping. Clete asked both Fire Chief Peters and Police Chief Musson how the 4"of July event in town was from their perspectives. Both agreed that there was nothing really out of the ordinary and that considering there were approximately 40-50,000 people in Laurel for the day.The Laurel Volunteer Fire Association fired approximately$58,000.00 worth of fireworks all paid with donations. The meeting concluded at 5:58 pm and Fire Chief Peters invited Doug,Tom and Clete to the fire station to look at the two new vehicles. The three spent 15-20 minutes at the fire station while Chief Peters showed them the two new trucks and the equipment on them. Respectfully Submitted, 14 Tom Nelson
