Old Business
The organization of the Friends of the Library has been put on hold until Jo Kramer has time to
actively participate in the reorg of the group.
Nancy attended the Montana Shared Catalog and Partner's meetings in Helena on May 3rd and
4th. The cost of the Shared Catalog is expected to increase by only$104 in the next fiscal year
over last year. Laurel continues to send out over 500 items per month to partner libraries. In
April we sent 544 items and borrowed 51, about 10%. We've been reassured that the numbers
will even out eventually.
The articles for the Laurel Outlook that were being prepared by Garrett Harr for publication will
not be printed in the paper after all. Garrett has moved and suspended publication of the articles.
The proceeds from the Book Sale totaled$1,060.60. While this is a significant amount of money
to make there is a LOT of work involved in preparing and setting up the sale. This doesn't
include the volunteers needed to work the sale.Nancy suggested that we do just one sale per year
rather than 2 sales each year. It was discussed and decided that a book sale in the fall would be
the best time to hold our one sale. We will schedule a sale in September or October.
New Business
The per capita funding received by libraries is on hold until August 15d'when state revenues are
finalized. If the received revenues don't come in over$2.1 Billion then libraries will not receive
our per capita funding for FY 17/18.Next year the revenues need to be over$2.6 Billion to
receive funding. Not receiving this funding will affect our summer reading programs,
montanalibrary2go, and purchase of Heritage Quest/Ancestry Library Edition.
Nancy will be attending an all-day training in Miles City on Financial Literacy presented by the
MSU Extension Office. There is no cost to attend and travel/motel is provided by MSU.
The next Federation Coordinator's meeting and State Library Commissioner's meeting will be
held in Helena June 13th& 14th. Since Nancy is required to attend these meetings the next Board
meeting will need to be moved to a different date. Dixie motioned that the next Board of
Trustees' meeting be held on Tuesday,June 6, 2017 at 6:00 pm, Arthur seconded the motion.
Motion passed.
The Summer Reading Program is scheduled to start June 1 St, 2017.Nancy will be visiting West
Elementary in the next two weeks for community outreach with the first and second graders.
Flyers announcing the reading program will be given out along with library card applications.
The library will be closed Saturday, May 27th through Monday, May 29th for Memorial Day
weekend. Staff will take personal or vacation time for Saturday.
