Old Business
Jo Kramer was scheduled to visit with the Board about the Friends group but did not attend the
meeting.Nancy will contact her later this week for a status update.
The Federation meeting was held in Big Timber at the Carnegie Public Library on March 18, 2017.
Most of the discussion was about HB 261 and LSTA funding for public libraries. The State Library
recommends that we contact our legislators to encourage them to vote for the passage of HB261. We
are also told to expect the worst as far as funding is concerned. As soon as Jennie knows whether we
are going to get Federal funding or State funding she will let us know.
Mike Furman attended the first day of the Montana Library Association conference in Billings this
year. He attended training on in-depth cataloging and extensive reports in WorkFlows.Nancy attended
all three days of the conference, including the MontanaLibrary2Go membership meeting on Friday
morning at 7:30 am. Her trainings were in-depth cataloging, genealogical exploration using
newspapers, mentoring new librarians, and starting a coding club.Nancy also attended a membership
meeting for public librarians, Keynote speaker luncheon, and implementing web security at your
library.
Just a reminder that the Easter Story and Egg Hunt hosted by the Laurel Federated Women's Club will
be held tomorrow, April 12'", at 1:00 pm. Please tell everyone that it will be held whether it rains or
shines.
New Business
The next Montana Shared Catalog meeting will be held in Helena in conjunction with the Partners
meeting. The Shared Catalog meeting will be on Wednesday, May 3rd at Carroll College from 10:00
am to 3:00 pm. The Partners meeting is Thursday, May 40'at the Montana Historical Society from 8:30
am to 12:30 pm. There will be training offered Thursday afternoon by the Shared Catalog trainers.
Nancy will leave Tuesday afternoon and return Thursday evening.
Garrett Harr from the Laurel Outlook has contacted library staff to conduct interviews about the
library. He would like to feature a library staff member each month along with information about
upcoming events. Garrett is an avid reader and wants to promote use of the library.
After a lengthy discussion it was decided that the next book sale would be held May 9`"— 13`h in the
library community room.Nancy will contact Jo to run the sale so library staff doesn't have to work it.
The sale hours will be 9:00 am—7:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 9:00 am—5:00 pm
on Friday and 9:00 am—3:00 pm on Saturday. Anyone interested in working the sale is encouraged to
contact library staff.
With the decrease or stagnation of techTuesday attendance it has been decided that this would be
discontinued at the library to allow for other use of the community room. techTueday has been held the
second Tuesday of each month at the library since April 2010. A few patrons that have attended the
meetings(aside from the 2 or 3 regulars) felt they were being"encouraged"to buy Apple products
rather than receiving the basic computer help they came for. This will give other library patrons a
chance to use the community on those days.
Other
The next Federation Coordinator's meeting will be held in June but the date is unknown at this time.
Some of the library staff still have personal time that needs to be used so they don't lose it.Nancy will
schedule time off for them at the beginning of June.
The next Board meeting will be held on May 16, 2017 rather than May 13, 2017 to accommodate the
book sale.
