CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
MAY 20, 1997 6~05 P.M.

Gary Temple said that when the time comes to vote on the Street &
Alley committee report, he will abstain from voting since he is
involved.
Donna will make her report regarding a meeting she attended, at the
regular council meeting.
Gay would like to review downtown parking ordinances, etc., and
suggested that the pre-council meetings begin at 6:00 instead of
6:30. This will be discussed at the June 1st council meeting.
william Staudinger mentioned that the grass around town is over 8"
high and needs to be cut. Chuck said that the staff will take care
of it. Mr. Staudinger went on to say that we need to keep on top
of it so the people will get their grass cut.
Jim Stevens informed the council that the fire department
participated in a training exercise with the railroad regarding a
'car wreck.
Jim reported that work is being done at Riverside Park in
preparation of possible flooding. Over a thousand sand bags have
been filled by high school students. He reported on other items:
Building permits are increasing.
Contractors are progressing on the pole building at the shop.
Employment of summer help in the parks has taken place.
The City Shop is being re-wired.
The new phone system at City Hall has been installed.
Chuck mentioned that a Disaster and Emergency Services meeting will
be held on May 29th at 6:00 p.m. at the FAP Complex.
John Smith, Chairman of Airport Authority and Craig Canfield, of
Interstate Engineering, gave a report and update of what is taking
place at the Laurel Airport..
