Board Meeting Minutes
The Meeting was held on April 13th, 2017 at Fowl Play. In attendance were: Executive Board Members: President
- Mary Lou Batalden,VP- Cindy Drake and executive secretary- Marcia Hafner and Chamber Assistant-Camilla
Nelson. Directors: Billie Lehman, Bruce Larson, Carrie Smith,sub-Donnie McVee, Renee Studiner, Katie Whitmoyer.
Members: Ken Gomer and Leif Welhaven.
Mary Lou called the meeting to order.
The minutes were approved: moved to approve-Carrie, 2nd- Renee.
The financial report was approved and bills were presented for payment: moved to approve-Cindy,2nd-Carrie.
Guest Speaker - Leif Welhaven presented the purpose of the Laurel Exchange Club. He invited
everyone to join. They meet at KC's.
Old BUSINESS
• July 4th- Parade theme - Several ideas were presented. A written vote was taken and Ignite the
Spirit of America was chosen.
• Farmers Market- Mary Lou reported on the Laurel Downtown Farmers Market. She is trying to round up
entertainment for each week. She would also like to line up a service club for each week, to present their
organization in a booth.
• Budget&Audit Committee- Meeting dates will be set and they will meet before the next board
meeting.
New BUSINESS
• New Members- LARC and Laurel Exchange Club. Both organizations had representatives at the
meeting.
• Spotlight on Business - Always looking for new.
• Visitor Information Signs- Marcia met with Sign Pro. Put down a down payment. They have started
redoing the designs on a compatible graphic design program. It will come to much less than we raised at
the Annual Meeting, so as soon as they are done, Marcia would like to start on the Nez Perce signs.
• Social Media Marketing Class- Biz to Biz 2 has set up a class for Facebook for Business Owners.
Everything from setting up a page to using Facebook Ads and making ads work for you. April 15th,
Saturday 9am - 1pm at the Best Western Laurel, MT. Cost $25. It was approved to pay for Marcia to
go.
• Computers - Our QuickBooks will no longer be supported. Marcia will present costs. Carrie thought that
would be only for Payroll applications, so it was tabled until next fall.
• LARC- Marcia presented that this July 4th we donate the run entry profits to LARC. She felt that was a
cause the runners could support.The competition for runs is so great now, that runners look for the cause
to make the decision of which run to sign up to run. The Laurel Exchange Club and LARC would like to help
with the run or anything else we need volunteers to do. moved to approve- Cindy,2nd-Carrie.Approved.
Ribbon Cuttings -April 18th for the Rotary Club at the Owl Café at noon.
OPEN FORUM
• New Director - Roger Heimbigner will be the new athletic director for the school district and will
take over as the Chamber Director representing the school. Donnie also presented the information
that will go out to the voters for the upcoming election.

o June -Adult Resource Alliance ---- Looking for someone to partner with them.
