Joe Leckie Don Hackmann Alan Hovious Jim Flisrand Jim Stevens Discussion regarding having ward meetings by going out to each of the four wards and holding periodic informational meetings. Bud Johnson volunteered to organize and hold the first meeting in his ward. Jim gave a public works update. Sweeping is being done in the residential area where sanding was done around the stop signs during the winter. Bill Staudinger said that he doesn't think the sweeper is getting close enough to the curb. Jim will check on this. It was reported that Mr. Martin is excavating the area where the apartment building burned down. Donna has had several calls regarding weeds and low hanging trees. Dirk reported that the Police Committee minutes from last night are in the notebooks. Norm reported that he has received letters from residents on the 700, 800 & 900 block on Second Avenue. Norm questioned what we are going to do with the City Treasurer. She hasn't been to work since the 27th of march. Joe has reviewed the situation. He said that the City Council has the right to call her to the City Council meeting and ask for a report from her. This will be discussed later at the council meeting. Bud Johnson questioned a couple of items regarding the Street and Alley Committee recommendation awhile back. He wanted to know the status of those items. Jim will get together with Joe and review them. Bud also questioned the remodeling plans at City Hall and Jim gave him an update. Alan Hovious reported that Danielle Keirle, one of our newer officers, is now in basic police training. Another new officer, Jeff Fowler, started on July 7th. He also reported on a plan to expand on the number of police reserve officers. This would allow more police officers to get out in the field. Also he would like to get the reserves more involved with investigations. Matt Hoppel will become a full time investigator in September. The reserves could be used to deal with some of the juvenile problems that we are having and also Neighborhood Watch Programs. Alan said that he would like to increase the number of police reserve officers from 25 to 35. Alan would like to set up a public meeting before school starts this fall. He is also talking to civic groups in an attempt to get more civic involvement with police work. He reviewed a letter which he received from the Community Crime Prevention Council regarding a national night out crime and drugs prevention event on Friday, August 1st.
