The consensus is that we are going to be extremely lucky if we keep what we have regarding planning legislation. The attitude among the legislators seems to be that they do not like local governments. We need to concentrate our efforts on keeping what we have. Cal will keep the council informed of any changes in the state legislature. We need to do anything we can to enforce and keep what local powers we have in local governments. He stated that the Manufactured Housing Association would probably be pushing the right to put mobile homes in any place they want. He referred to a recent Supreme Court case in Livingston last year in which the local government took the subdivision law and said that local governments could require more out of a developer than what it specifically said in the subdivision law. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of local government. He encouraged the council and those in local government to talk to the state legislators and ask them to let us have local powers for local decisions. Cai presented the plat for the Laurel Business Park Subdivision. This is the first filing of the master plan for that subdivision. He said that it is going to be a very nice development for Laurel. It will be a first-class business park development with half-acre lots. Larry Tanglen said that Jennifer Draper has taken a three-month leave of absence from the Laurel Outlook. Larry introduced his daughter, Rebecca Tanglen, who will be taking Jennifer's place for the summer. Mayor Rodgers said that Thomson Park looks very nice. The trees are trimmed and the sprinkler system has been completed. Crews have been cleaning out the curbs and gutters in some areas and have done a good job. The mayor commented that everything seems to be working at the present time. Mayor Rodgers mentioned that he would be making appointments for the Board of Adjustments, Library Board and the City-County Planning Board at the council meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Cindy Allen Secretary
