HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 11.15.2016 Minutes of the Laurel Public Library Board of Trustees November 15, 2016 Attending Clair Killebrew Dixie Feller Bill Hanson Rose Marie Kline Nancy Schmidt Minutes Dixie motioned that the minutes for October 2016 be accepted as read. Clair seconded the motion. Motion passed. Correspondence A donation of$100 was made by Heather Lund, after the book sale. Circulation Report—compared to same time period last year... Traffic: down 2.71%; circulation: all items circulated totaled 3,067 (including 246 eBooks), book circulation was down 6.17%, media circulation was up 22.2%, eBook checkouts for this month was 9.5%of total book circulation; computers: internet use was down 32.86%, children's use was up 17.39%, wi-fi use up 28.31%; patron cards: city patrons accounted for 64.35%of registered card holders at this time, county patrons represented 31.56%of registered patrons and out-of-county patrons were 4.1%of users. There were 27 tech assists in October. Old Business The book sale proceeds totaled $1,280.30. A great big thank you to Darlene Enriquez, Mike Furman and Bill Hanson for all their hard work in setting up tables and preparing the books for the sale. Rose Marie Kline, Darlene, Bill and Nicole Hess worked very hard at the sale during most of the week. Julia Torna worked the sale on Saturday afternoon until the library closed for the day. We are currently looking for other outlets for our excess books to help with our limited storage space. Mike and Nancy will attend training for Partners implementation in Columbus on December 1st. Part of the new rules that we are agreeing to are the cessation of fines for overdue books. Patrons will still have to pay for lost or damaged books. New Business Laurel Library will be implementing access to six new databases for our patrons. The list includes Chilton Library for automotive repair, Gale Biography in Context for biographical research, General OneFile for basic information access, Health& Wellness Resource Center for anyone wanting to research their own medical history, InfoTrac Newsstand includes access to numerous newspaper and journal articles, Kids Infobits for our younger students to use for research and Research in Context for the older students&adults that are researching anything they can't find in one of the other databases. The subscription to these databases will run until the end of November 2017. If they are well used during the next year,we may consider renewing our subscription. It's that time of year again...our anneal statistics are due November 18, 2016. The State Library requires each public library to statistically report expenses, income,traffic, circulation, etc. as part of the State Aid Grant. If we don't complete the statistics,we don't receive our grants. Nancy will be busy next week pulling numbers to submit for the final report. Other The library will be closed Thursday,November 24th for Thanksgiving but not Saturday, November 26th. Staff can request that day off if they want to take a vacation day. Geralyn will be on vacation December 19th—24th. She has family coming to visit. Her sick leave will begin December 27th and run through February 11th, 2017. Other staff will be adjusting schedules as much as possible to accommodate her time off.
