COUNCIL CHAMBERS MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Chuck Rodgers Dirk Kroll Gary Temple Ken Olson Norman Orr Gay Easton Bud Johnson Bill Staudinger OTHERS PRESENT: V. Joe Leckie Mike Zuhoski Mary Embleton Larry McCann Jim Stevens Mary Embleton reported on the BARS workshop she attended on June l0th. At the workshop, Mary received a handout of ail of the legislative updates from the last session. She reviewed the following bills for the council: SB95, HB476, SB260, HB336, SB200, HB192, HB532, SB434, HB586 and SB184. Mary informed the council that the office has selected a new copy machine. Mary scheduled a Heaith Insurance Committee meeting for Thursday, June 17th, at 7:00 p.m. to begin the process of selecting health insurance coverage. Larry McCann said that the recent problems at the swimming pool cost $1,200. They are investigating the cost of sandblasting and lining the pool. We will get by this summer, but the pool is reaching the point where something will have to be done to fix it. After it is drained, we will seek cost estimates for instailing new lining in the pool. Ken Olson asked Larry if SB586 would improve our opportunity for park improvements. Larry and Mary will obtain a complete copy of the bill for their review. Jim Stevens recently attended the Montana State Volunteer Firefighter's Convention in Libby. He announced that Laurel has been selected to host the convention in the year 2001. Gary Temple thanked Larry McCann for his help in installing the wheelchair accessible crosswalks by Seibert's. There has also been concern about the crosswalk situation by the Dairy Queen. Gary spoke regarding the request from Help Our Morai Environment of Laurel to have the City of Laurel pass a resolution retaining the American Family Association to draft the necessary sexually oriented business ordinance and zoning. A member of the Livingston Commission recommended to nim to have the American Family Association write the ordinance, subject to the council's approval. The association requested $1,000.00 to cover travel expenses. The Help Our Moral Environment group raised that mount of money, and Mary Embleton is in receipt of that check. The Billings City Council appointed Dirk Kroll to their Ambulance Review Committee. The committee will be reviewing the ambulance service in Billings and deciding if they will renew their contract with AMR. Dirk will keep the council informed of the progress. Gay Easton questioned whether action needed to be taken on the CTEP letter that was received from Cal Cumin. Bill Staudinger commented on the tall weeds that are still growing around Laurel. Larry said that Connie Lind had identified some properties that need attention and letters were supposed to be sent to those property owners.
