Minutes
Bill motioned the minutes for July 2016 be accepted as read. Dixie seconded the motion. Motion
passed.
Correspondence
A donation in the amount of$10,000 was received from the Bonnie Preikszas estate. This will
bel added to the library donation account with the City of Laurel.
Circulation Report—compared to same time period last year...
Traffic: down 24.6%; circulation: all items circulated totaled 3,446 (including 294 eBooks), book
circulation was down 16.45%, media circulation was up 4.4%, eBook checkouts for this month
was 10.22%of total book circulation; computers: internet use was down 47.78%, children's use
was down 28.57%, wi-fi use down 1.96%; patron cards: not available at this time. There were 39
tech assists in July.
Old Business
The library budget was completed and accepted without any changes except to update Director's
salary to meet Federal standards.
The Lois Markegard memorial flower boxes have been completed. It is too late to plant flowers
this year but bulb will be planted for spring flowers along with seasonal flowers in April or May.
The Summer Reading Program was very successful this year. There were 159 registered
participants. Total amount spent reading was 73,696 minutes OR 1,228 hours 27 minutes OR 51
days 17 hours 27 minutes. There was an average of 24 attendees for the summer reading
activities each week. We gave away 6 bicycles as grand prizes to: Henry Jacobson, Charlotte
Rowley, Sophia Looney, Sarah Wallace,Judah Looney and Klan Kogelman. The winner from
the 14-18 age group has not chosen their grand prize yet.
New Business
The library will be closed Saturday, September 3rd through Monday, September 5th, 2016 for the
holiday weekend. Regular business hours resume on Tuesday, September 6th at 9:00 am. This
will give most employees a four-day weekend.
The fall book sale is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25th through Saturday, October 30th. The
sale will be open 9:00 am to 7:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Friday and 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday. These hours may change if there are not enough
volunteers available to work the book sale.
Bill motioned the Board meeting be adjourned, Dixie seconded the motion. Motion passed,
meeting adjourned at 6:42 pm.
