ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 2.84.010 AND 2.84.020 OF THE
LAUREL MUNICIPAL CODE, CHANGING COMPOSITION OF THE
CEMETERY COMMISSION AND OFFICER SELECTION PROCESS.
WHEREAS, the City of Laurel previously adopted an Ordinance providing for the
appointment, composition and t~rai of the Cemetery Commission;
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to change the composition of the Cemetery
Commission and procedure for selecting a Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the
Commission; and
IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED by the City Council for the City of Laurel,
Montana, that Sections 2.84.010 and 2.84.020 of the Laurel Municipal Code are hereby
amended to read as follows:
Cemetery commission--
Appointment, composition and term.
There is created and provided an official body to be
known as the Laurel cemetery commission, '::~.;.zh shall

seven members. One member of the commission shall be
the duly elected, qualified acting mayor of the city. Six
remaining Commission members shall be appointed by the
mayor and approved by the council as follows: Two
members shall be duly elected, qualified and aetino
ald _erpersons of the city: two members shall reside within
the city limits: and two members shall reside at large in
Yellowstone County. The term of office of each member
shall be two years or sooner, as specified in the mayor's
appointment and until his/her successor is appointed and
qualified. Any vacancy shall be filled by appointment for
the unexpired tefax
Cemetery commission-Powers and duties.
The cemetery commission shall:
A. Meet within ten days after receiving notice

be ald _erpemons who are avpointed to such positions by the
mayor with the consent of the council The city clerk-
treasurer or his or her designee shall be secretary;
B. Control and manage all things pertaining to
the city cemetery;
C. The commission shall adopt roles and
regulations for the control and management of the
cemetery, which roles and regulations shall be established
by resolution of the city council; end which may be
changed or amended from time to time by resolution of the
city council as recommended by the commission and as the
council may deem appropriate. (Ord. 02-44 (part), 2002:

This Ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days after final passage by the
City Council and approved by the Mayor.
